hey i found this setup 9452W1Q, on visa perks.

a z series, with the core duo, 1gb RAM, 100GB harddrive, DVD burner, and x1400 along with 3 year warranty for around 1.4 thousand Canadian, does this sound like a good deal or what?

how does the build quality of the z series compare to the T series?

    Thanks a bunch

I would have to convert your 1.4 thousand CAD to USD in order to say for sure but it looks like a pretty decent configuration for the price. What speed Core Duo is it? I haven't had a T60 yet but the build quality and the keyboard of my Z61m is very good IMO.

It is not the Core 2 Duo. If anything the Z is more solid than the T.

My Z61m with the 9 cell actually turned out to be quite a bit lighter then i had thought it was and unless your a wuss It's definitely not heavy, especially if you have a carrying case or backpack to put it in.

Core Duo processors do not support 64-bit so you won't be able to run 64-bit Vista but you can run 32-bit Vista and to be honest i wouldn't bother with 64-bit for at least another couple of years because driver support still isn't great and there isn't very many advantages to running 64-bit right now unless you're running a server and require the ability to use more then 4GB of memory.

I believe that is the exact same combination that I purchased. 1.4 thousand looks like a good deal, because you're getting a dedicated GPU. If you compare prices with other brands, you will find that it is rare that 1.4 thousand gets you a dedicated GPU (at least I did when I looked 2 months ago). Plus, the Thinkpad quality build is always worth a little bit more money!
