Just recently I've been having trouble with my spacebar on my month old T60. It's lost much of its bounce and the stroke on it is drastically reduced.

It seems to have happened overnight as well, as I didn't notice it yesterday. Is there a way to safely remove the spacebar and see if maybe there is something under it? I've never eaten around my laptop so it's definitely not crumbs or anything like that. But it's really bugging me because I feel like I'm pounding on my spacebar to get anything out of it now.

    Thanks!

you can easily lift off that key. I do it all the time. just be gentle, but forceful at the same time

Ok, so I've taken it off and there are two gray plastic mechanisms. One is laying flat and the other is slightly raised and can be pushed down.

When I look at the other keys, the gray plastic piece is raised. However, for my spacebar, the side that feels "mushy" has its gray piece raised. While the side that feels fine is laying flat.

Are they both supposed to be raised or both supposed to be flat? And there appears to be no structural damage to either, so I'm not sure what's wrong.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

I just took mine apart, and I see that there's a metal peici on the bottom of the plastic bar that has to slide into some plastic pieces under there. slide the end of the bar in, then push it down to lock it.

I see the metal bar and it is properly in place. The left plastic thing can be raised to the position like the other, but when it is pushed down it lays flat and doesn't pop back up.

Yes. If I push it down, it just pops back up.

I would recommend calling Lenovo and asking for a new keyboard, you paid for excellent tech support & warranty, might as well make use of it!

I had the same problem with my down arrow and right arrow keys. Was fine for the first 3 weeks and suddenly it's jammed.

I called them and they sent me a new keyboard with 2 business day shipping.

The new keyboard is perfect. I really really hope that it doesn't happen again in the future.

Er... I just noticed that my 'y' key is jammed. I have to punch it really hard in order to get it to print. THIS IS THE SECOND KEYBOARD AND IT HAPPENED WITHIN 2 WEEKS.

This is sad and annoying and frustrating. I use the y key even more than the arrow keys.

A lot of questions I have. Firstly, is there any possible way to insert the metallic 'spring' from previous keyboard into this one?

Now, what am i supposed to do? call lenovo and get it replaced again? I think they might think that I am lying.

Both keyboards were chicony. Do you think they will let me choose a different keyboard this time, alps or nmb?

1.) Have you tried gently but firmly pulling the key off the board and reinserting it? (just press down firmly after it's lined up)
2.) I'd call and be honest--offer to ship back the defective keyboard. A keyboard is not a huge-ticket item, I doubt they'll think you're trying to scam them.
3.) If you know the right FRU # for NMB or Alps, you should be able to request it.
    4.) Stop typing so hard!

Yes, I pulled the key off the board. The problem is with the spring, and the jammed key is tilted towards the right, about 45degrees when pressed.

It's so strange because, I don't play games at all on this and even if I did, I don't think this should get jammed this easily.. I mean c'mon. It's only been 2 weeks and this is not my *ONE AND ONLY* computer. I was extra careful this time and tried to limit the time using this thing.

Ok, I did something to the spring and it's now back to normal. :)

One unrelated problem that I have is that the front dashboard is popping up a bit after I took it out to put in the new keyboard. There's a gap between it and the wireless antenna and wireless switch. I tightened the screws on the bottom pretty well. Hmm not sure what to do.
