Speaking of the Thinkpad T510/410's recent info., does anyone know if in fact the X301 will be refreshed in January as well ? I only ask, because in the leaked Thinkpad road-map, it listed every laptop as getting a refresh in Q1 2010, except the X301. Any thoughts on this ? I would assume they just forgot/left it out, and that it's replacement would be the X302 ???

I doubt they forgot to put it on the map...
I would give Lenovo a call to see if any of the sale representative has some inside info.

It won't be refreshed until the ULV CPUs are refreshed which will be sometime in H1 2010 (ie. definitely not in January).

    Cool !
    Thanks for the info.
I guess I don't feel that bad now (since I just placed an order for an X301 :)

If that were true than why is the SU9400 using X200s shown as getting Arrandale in January? More likely is that Lenovo is not updating the X300 right away or they forgot to add it on.

However, I don't think the January refresh include ULV Arrandale CPUs, so the X210s refresh will not include ULV options until later.

So then what will it use? The current X200s uses SU and SL C2D's. The SU's are being replaced by the UM series Core i7's and Core i5's throughout 2010. The SL are being replaced by the Core i7 LM's. So when the X210s launches in January, it will only be available with the LM series Arrandale processors?

What's wrong with that? They can then add the ULV processors as an option later whenever those are launched. I'm assuming the ULV processors won't launch at the same time, but you're the guy with the Intel inside info, so you should know.

Haha yeah, I based my previous post from what you've posted about Intel...

Intel should make a variant of the X301 which uses standard (faster) processors....

    you mean lenovo...

and they did! there's no way x301 can handle the heat from the faster processors, so they made t400s.

Whoops, yes I mean Lenovo. And while I think it would be possible to include a somewhat faster processor (Macbook Air), I guess what I actually mean is that I would like to see a 13" version of the T400s. I like the smaller size and lighter weight of a 13", but want to hold onto the better processing power of the T-series.

from what I've gathered, there will be three variants of Arrandale: UM, LM, and M. The UM will correspond roughly to the ULV CPUs of today, and the LM will correspond to the SL series today, and the M will be the mainstream CPU for Arrandale. Even though the UM uses 18W vs 10W max for the ULV CPUs, it will still be the future ULV replacement because most Northbridge components are built into the chip and same for the integrated GPU. (Northbridge can be up to 7 watts alone). So even though the chip itself consumes more power, the overall package will be more power friendly. Also word on the street is there won't be any lower power variant of Arrandale than the 18W version, the UM series.

What he was trying to say is that the UM series won't be available in Jan 2010, hence either the revision comes out in Jan 2010 with only LM i7s (most probable) or delayed until the UM i7s come outs.

oh, i believe that the UM's should come around the same time as the rest of Arrandale, Q1 2010. I don't see any evidence that the UM's are delayed. You think they are?

I think in the hardware forum, Intel said H1 2010 for the UM, and that they will release the UM after the M and LM i5/i7s.

oh hmm. ok. Well it makes sense that there wouldn't be an immediate X301 replacement then, seeing as how that's how it is in the roadmap.
