For a Software Engineer like me whose daily works depend on the very powerful computers, it's just too awesome.
1.15.6-inch machine with option 1920x1080 RG-ph LED FHD (95% Gamut 270 NIT)
2. a choice of quad-core Core i7-720QM, Core i7-820Q or Core 2 Extreme i7-920XM processors
3. up to 16GB of RAM
4. NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M 1GB graphics
5. offer USB 3.0
6. New Intel Wifilink 6300 3x3
7.SSD or HDD
-
The W510 appears to have a 16:10 aspect ratio, so the FHD screen should be 1920x1200.
I would imagine that to a software engineer vertical space is extremely important, no? -
Well, apparently for me using labview most time, horizontal space is more preferred. But then again, I'm not software engineer per say.
-
according to lenovo blogs all 15 inch laptops are 16:9. I am not a software engineer but i do work with alot of imaging, so 16:9 RGB-LED is something i am very much looking forward to. Being able to line up multiple images side by side is super important to me, hence the preference for 16:9. Anybody want to buy a lightly used T400s?
here is the direct quote:
The T510 and W510 have switched to 16:9 aspect ratio displays. Though 4:3 is not coming back, there are a lot of people (myself included) that did not want to switch aspect ratios yet again on the 14” form factor. Enough other vendors in the industry voiced this same opinion that the industry was able to convince glass manufacturers to continue making 14.1” 16:10 glass – this year at least. Thus, the T410 and T410s feature 16:10 displays just like their predecessor models. All displays are LED backlit. (Good riddance to florescent backlighting.) -
wouldn't mind trading my W500 up for that.
-
That new LCD is certainly the most welcome.
-
As a computer scientist I value both horizontal and vertical screen space. What good is having a wide screen when you spend a ton of time scroll through...
-
Now we just filled in all the options... oh wait, a default, "I don't like neither of the two".
-
Lenovo have dumped internal magnesium alloy rollcage and carbon fibre composite polymer bottom case on T510 and W510......... and W510 will have four ram slots.....
But still no internal rollcage... that makes it a SL series...... with only Polycarbonate...... -
Awesome!!! Where do I sign up for one? LED & 16GB ram? Too sweet.
-
Ultrabay Enhanced Drive rather than Ultrabay Slim drive........
-
Nope, 16:9 screen. It's 1920x1080. I'm liking the 95% NTSC gamut + LED backlight though
-
Yep, especially , USB 3.0 and 16 of Ram. If i got one , i'll have two computers supporting 16 GB of Ram, one for new iMac and this laptop.
I personally think the limit at 8GB of Ram would not be enough in the near future. I have been using my new iMac with 8GB of Ram. I still feel I need more than that for my required-powerful-computers jobs and software application.
So, 16GB is the way to go (at least for me) -
well W510 according to some source would using 4 ram slots (i am not sure whether that is true), so you can get the relatively cheaper 4 gig modules rather paying through your teeth for the unreleased 8 gig modules.
-
speaking of which, anyone know what the RAM limit on these machines is? if 8 GB RAM modules come out, can I jam 4 of these babies into a W510 and get 32 GB of RAM?
-
16 gigs of ram according to Lenovo, but who knows 32 gig could be distinct possibility.
-
up to 16 GB, I guess -
I can't even imagine how that much RAM could conceivably be used... or the cost of such an upgrade
From the pictures, it would seem the W510 and T510 are both thicker, but judging by the thickness of the optical drive in comparison to a headphone slot, they'll still use the 9.5mm UltraBay (rather than the R-series' 12.5mm), minus the beveled edge of the T500/W500 (a return to the T60's flat-edged UltraBay). -
Haha I think MATLAB supports 32GB of ram.
-
Matt Kohut has confirmed that the T510, T410 and W510 will be using the ultrabay enhanced (12.7 mm) format and not the ultrabay slim format (9.5 mm).
-
Well, then on Matt's post why does the first picture (the one with the "T410 Side Views") label a "9.5mm Optical Drive Backward Compatible With T410, T410s"?
I don't think the new T-series notebooks are quite thick enough for a 12.7 mm drive, and the pictures of the T510, W510, and T410 seem to suggest a 9.5 mm drive (look at it in comparison with other ports). -
I'm confused with this information
"ThinkPad T410s had 14.1-inch WXGA (1280x800) display offering 16:10 aspect ratio and T410 offers WXGA+ (1440x900) display screen with 16:10 aspect ratio. While the T510 will feature 15-inch HD (1366x768) in 16:9 aspect ratio and will also offer HD+ (1600x900) and Full HD (1920x1080) in 16:9 aspect ratio. All three ThinkPads are capable of holding up to 6GB DD3 memory and up to 8GB DDR4 memory. For storage, one can choose up to 128GB SSD or 500GB (7200RPM) HDD"
DDR 4 already?. How come W510 doesn't have this feature. and How come DDR 4 can be placed more than DDR 3? -
Compared between T series and W series.
http://www.techtree.com/India/News/Lenovos_Refreshed_ThinkPad_Series_Unveiled/551-108467-893-2.html
W510 seems to be thicker and heavier. Moreover, I can't see any difference from the current W series
Do you know how much weight W510 will be? Will it be too heavy to carry?.
Also, i might consider T series as well because of its specs below
ThinkPad T410 and T510 laptops
The ultimate combination of performance, portability and energy efficiency
Business notebooks designed for portability without compromising performance.
* Latest Intel® processors
* HD LED backlit widescreen displays
* Up to 18 hrs. battery life with optional Slice 9-cell battery
* Next-generation easy-to-use keyboard
18 hrs, if true, it's just awesome. How about W510 ? -
Read Matt Kohut's comment (response 5), he said it i didn't make it up. But on closer reading of the post, the T410 is stated to have the 9.5 mm ultrabay slim drive. But maybe when he said all he meant that the T510 and W510 machines.
I know the T510 has a 12.7 mm drive because it is listed in the spec sheet that was released somewhere, i will try to find it. -
I read this article and found that USB 3.0 will not be out on these new Thinkpad Series!!!! As the author said
"These machines do not feature USB 3.0 yet. Intel declined to provide USB 3 support in this year’s chipsets so many vendors will be skipping adding USB 3.0 on all but their highest end machines where they will be adding extra USB 3 controller chips. We have picked eSATA on many machines, so those of you needing higher speed external storage will have options."
However, I found this article saying that
http://www.techtree.com/India/News/Lenovos_Refreshed_ThinkPad_Series_Unveiled/551-108467-893-2.html
"Apart from Gigabit Ethernet
, USB-eSATA combo port, FireWire, DisplayPort, and 5-in1 multimedia card reader, W510 has 4 USB ports of which one will be USB 3.0 port."
Which one should i believe? -
W510 is Lenovo's high end model... so this means it has an added chip for the USB 3.0.
Specs of W510
