i was wondering if overall the z61 will be a better machine than the T60. the only advantage that i can "see" is that the z61t now comes with a WXGA+ screen while the 14" T60 has the SXGA. also, there is no dedicated graphics card in the z61. i am thinking that the only people who would go for the new 14" core duo Z will be the widescreen lovers. for all other intents and purposes, the T60 still is a superior choice. what are your thoughts?

z61t is significantly lighter than the t60. Titanium lid has some functional/aesthetic advantages as well. I'm personally going with the z61t when it comes out. The weight and widescreen are the things for me. Don't want or need dedicated graphics which would be the only advantage for a 14" t60

i agree but beauty is in the eye of the beholder...so the titanium lid may be as pleasing to some as the sleek black look.

i was also wondering if anyone knew what the prices would be like for the new Z's?

Actually that's not the case. The Z6*t with the Ti lid is slightly heavier than the 14" T60. The Ti lid adds about 0.5lbs to the weight of the Z. So if you go for the normal "business black" Z, then it will be lighter.

I think a lot of the people who buy ThinkPads aren't concerned much wit gaming.

not according to the specs posted:

    z61t: travel / w/optical
    4 cell black 4.17lb / 4.57lb
    7 cell black 4.53lb / 4.92lb
    4 cell Ti 4.42lb / 4.81lb
    7 cell Ti 4.77lb / 5.17lb

    T60 14" max weight 5.5lb (tabook) 5.1lb (est. min)

big difference and lighter no matter how you configure it.

agreed, but you can get a black Z as well. So that's not an advantage for a T.

The tabook is somewhat vague on T60 weight since it lists the max weight. The Lenovo website lists the travel weight of some T60 models as 4.72lbs (2623D5U).

    ok
    lightest T60 = 4.72lb
    lightest z61t = 4.17lb

that might not seem like a lot to some people but i have my notebook on my back for at least and hour and at least a mile each day. I currently use a fujitsu s7020d that travels at 3.89lb. But 14" is about as small as I want to go.
