    Hi

I have a x61 with a T7300 cpu. I'm running XP SP2. When I right click on my computer properties it tells me that my processor is a T7300 @ 2Ghz but underneath it says 1.18Ghz 984MB Ram.

Shouldn't the 1.18GHz part read 2.0Ghz as well? Does this have anything to do with Speedstep in the bios which is enabled? I have installed the ThinkPad Power manager as well. Do I need to run both or can I disable the Speedstep in the bios? I'm just wondering if my cpu is running at 2.0Ghz as it feels a bit slow at the moment during some tasks.

    Thanks

Speedstep is supposed to throttle down the multiplier when the processor isn't in major use and then step it up when it requires it. You stated you have the T7300 which is rated at 2.0Ghz so don't worry it's just speedstepped down. And also if you wanted to turn it off just do that in bios.

You need to read carefully in the manual. I didn't test my T61. But in my Dell Lattitude, when you turn off speedstep, your machine runs only at minimum speed of your CPU. Hope this help.

Thanks for the advice guys. In the end I turned speedstep off in the bios and now the processor runs at full speed when connected directly to the mains. it still says 2.0Ghz when I am running in power saving mode but the machine feels slower. I guess it will do as I have the performance of the full 2.0GHz.
