So I spilled pepsi on my T61. Cleaned it up, popped all the keys off, cleaned under them and cleaned the keys themselves then put them all back.

And now the "a" and the "s" don't work. By don't work, I mean that with the key popped on, they don't work. So, right now, I've got both keys popped off and so that's how I'm using them. It's not a fault of the keys themselves, I've tried them in other positions around the keyboard and they work just fine.

Any advice? I supposed I could continue with this keys-off thiing (did that for months on my old Dell), but I'd like to figure out if there's some kind of more practical solution.

EDIT: Now my "s" key is working again with the thing snapped in place (!)
    EDIT2: Now it's not working again (!)

I don't know about you but if this was happening to me I would be looking for the least expensive way to replace the keyboard. One of the primary reasons I got a Lenovo was the wonderful keyboard they come with.

I don't want you to do anything immoral but if you called Lenovo and told them that one of the keys is not registering they will send you a new keyboard for free.

Do they ask for the keyboard back? I have seen this may times and it is very easy to tell when someone spilled something on their keyboard - especially soda.

I got a replacement keyboard from Lenovo because one of my keys was genuinely (I did not spill anything) not registering and they never asked for the old one back (I kept it just in case).Even if they asked for the old one back I doubt some one will actually take the time to check it. So there you have it.

Well! Your laptop will need to be under warranty for this to happen.
You can check your warranty status on Lenovo's website with your serial#. Good luck.

I'll look into that. Especially as the aforementioned keys have now stopped working entirely. On the other hand, I know now the alt codes for a and s (0097 & 0115 heh)

IBM rocks. I put in a request through their website, and they called 2 hours later & the first thing he said was that he could send me a new keyboard, and it will be here by Tues. Which is great, and now I just have to write a 20 page paper on a computer where the a and s keys actually no longer work (forcing me to use the alt codes)

That's awesome! Did you tell them you spilled soda? And did they ask for the keyboard back?

no, I just said that some of my keys were no longer working, and the guy just said straight up that he would send a new one, and I don't have to send the old one back...quick, too..he said it would probably be here by Tues, which is great turn-around

And 48 hours after the call from the call center, I got a new keyboard. Bought a $5 set of screwdrivers and even my technically-challenged self managed to install the new one in under an hour. :D
