Hi all,
Well about 20 minutes ago i spilled half a glass (with a lemon in it) of water on t61 (right side). So i turned off the laptop, flipped it upside down and then dried it off, it stayed on after the spill happened but I turned it off to be safe, much to my surprise nothing happened, it works fine, starts up, the speakers work, the keyboard works fine, absolutely nothing is wrong with it. The reason why I am posting this is to ask if i should do anything else, is it fine now or should I take any further steps? And did I just dodge the built or are these notebooks just built tough?
-Thanks

The first thing that came to mind was turning it upside down. Don't do that. The drains will take care of the fluids and turning it upside down will only spread the fluid. Next time shut the machine down and let it sit and drain out. No moving it out of a puddle or lifting it up to allow better draining is fine but facing the keyboard down is going against the design. But I am glad to hear things are fine though.

Thanks, yeah I panicked but thanks for telling me for the future, hopefully this doesn't happen again, I guess I'm just really lucky nothing happened.

That's the way it is supposed to work, every time i have a cup of coffee near my T43 i get urges to actually try it like a real world test. The T4x's had the feature but had 1 drain hole, the T6xx's have 2 drain holes to accelerate the drainage of liquids. Good to hear another success story of this incident, it's been said that leaving the computer on and carrying on right after the spill is bad because eventually the liquid will caues the motherboard to fail, if you don't turn it off after you've spilled something on it.

That is really good to hear. To me there's been more bad things than good things happening with people's ThinkPads in this forum lately. This is probably because this is a place where people post their problems but it's good to hear a whole hearted pat on the back to Lenovo/IBM engineering and design.

take the laptop's keyboard and palmrest off...... and leave it to dry, use a hair dryer on cold and gently blow some cold air on the laptop to increase the evaporation rate of any residue water. And don't use it for another 2 days. This will maximize your laptop's chance of survival.

Reminds me of this funny add.

You got lucky. Enjoy it while it lasts.

How did he get lucky? They incorporate the drainage feature to have a higher survival rate, not for the looks.

It's spill resistant, not proof.

Thanks for everyone's input I guess it was down to design and luck.
