    Since there was a recent Thread on Anti-virus software! What about a Good Spyware software!

    I have been using Ad-Aware by Lavasoft. What have you guys/girls been using besides the freebies.

    I just got my new machine yesterday! I am pretty impressed. I need to keep her quick and un-annoyed.

    What's good. Sorry! Should have read more in the Anti Virus thread!!!

    Thanks,

    I use Ad-Aware and Spybot: Search & Destroy in tandem. They tend to catch one or two things that the other one doesn't catch, so they are a good combination.

    I use Spyware Doctor - the free version, which seems to do everything the "pay" version does, only it does not actually remove stuff for you. But it does point out where it is so you can then go and remove it yourself, if you feel up to it.

    I'm not so sure about Spybot though. In the past three years, it not once found anything murky on my system. Pfff! A bit too polyannish for my tastes!

    @ArchAngle:

    Spybot does a very good job of immunizing systems, which is probably why it didn't find anything. Trust me, it is more than capable of finding and cleaning spyware on an infected system, which I found out the hard way after my teenaged sister-in-law snuck on our computer and loaded that damned Zwinky client.

    Be smart about using your computer and you won't need one. Real-time scanners use up resources, which causes your computer to be slower. If you insist on getting a spyware scanner, I think Windows Defender is pretty good.

    Okay, that's good to know. Thank you for the info. I do still run it on my system now and then along with Lavasoft.

    I don't know what Zwinky is but I don't like the sound of it.

    I mainly use Ubuntu, which is almost spyware/virus free. :)
    I do have Kaspersky Anti-virus and Ad-aware installed under Windows XP, but it seems Kaspersky often eats a lot of CPU.

    @ArchAngle:

    Zwinky is a spyware-laden 3D instant messaging client. It installs some pretty tenacious spyware, too, but Spybot did a good job of cleaning it, thankfully.
