    Forgive my ignorance. If I have firewall protection, do I also need spyware? Thanks.

    yes, because a firewall only restricts access of programs. it can block spyware from connecting to the internet, but you will still get spyware/adware.

    You should also install multiple ones - try ad-aware and spybot
