Howdy. I got my T61P recently. Love it.

The other day the left trackpad button has begun to occasionally squeek while releasing it. I've tried taking removing the button, which halfway worked, but didn't do much for the squeek.

Lenovo will fix it I'm sure, but that requires sending it back to them in a box, etc, and probably waiting at least a week without it. I use it for law school so that's a terrible wait for me.

Anyone know what the protocol for fixing something like this would be? If someone knows the inside of the machine... I'm thinking maybe I can access some area under the button and oil it or something? A DIY fix would really be helpful here.

Great machine, but I can't have it squeeking in class. Bummer.

    Any help is much appreciated.

After about a month all my navpoint buttons squeak and so do a lot of the regular keys. I hate Chicony.

I posted a thread about this yesterday (same issue, started squeaking 5 days after I got the machine) and somebody suggested removing the keyboard panel and spraying the button with canned air, or just checking to see if it's seated right.

I hadn't yet had a chance to call about it, I was hoping Lenovo would suggest a DIY.

Yeah, I called, and they said they were gonna mail me a box to ship it back in. I told them to wait because I can't be without it for a week+ right now.

how do you remove the keyboard panel, i wonder?

If you call IBM and tell them you have squeeky keys they will send you a new keyboard.

Download the disassembly manual from Lenovo...just look under the guides and manuals section for the t61, on the support page.

that won't solve the problem...it is an issue with the spring underneath the clicker...it'a chicony thing...my previous 15" had the same problem
