Before, when I close the lid of the T61, the system enters standby mode (screen off etc). For unknown reason this is not happening now. When I close the lid, then reopen, everything is still there, and there is a dialog box that says:
"The device driver for the 'Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 keyboard' device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update tis driver. -- [OK]"
I click on [OK], then the box disappears, followed by the words "Standby Failed".
I restarted the machine but the problem remains. How to fix this without having to update the driver? (and how to update the driver if necessary?--but it shouldn't be necessary since I didn't do anything particular)

I searched google and found other people had the same problem with Thinkpad. It seems to be an exclusively Thinkpad problem.

It is quite obvious that this is a driver problem. I would just try a clean install and see if that helps anything.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just before that happened, I was installing my PC cam (separate, not integrated). I wonder if that caused the problem and whether unintalling/reinstalling the cam would solve the problem. I'm a little apprehensive about clean install for fear something goes wrong and it will be a mess for this newbie.

So I reinstalled my computer once and the problem seemed to be gone--only to reappear about two days ago. I then reinstalled again, no problem immediately, but it resurfaced soon after. I repeated the reinstallation two more times (on the same day! Took me a long day!), and the problem would come back after I installed Adobe photodeluxe. I got BSOD. I finally found out the culprit: it was something included in adobe photo deluxe, the Adobe Type Manager, which is somehow incompatible with the XP. So the last time I didn't install this ATM. The standby has worked well so far, no error message or BSOD. Thank God. I'm so glad I don't need to send in for repair (they couldn't repair it anyway).
Anyone else out there using any Adobe software that includes the adobe type manager, beware!
(Oh by the way the tech support didn't have a clue what's the cause of the problem and how to fix it. They can learn something from me)
Standby Fails on closing the lid --says keyboard driver problem?!
