Has anyone else noticed that after you log on to Windows Vista say after start up or restart up either plugged or unplugged to a power source that some task bar items load then there is a 15 to 20 second pause before the other items load, when there is no internet LAN or WiFi? How do you fix this?

Do you have a network printer defined?

no I only have a USB laser printer (hp LaserJet 1000) and the rest came with Vista or Office Fax, Microsoft Office Document Image Writer and Microsoft XPS Document Writer.

How do I define the network printer?

    Thanks

I figured it out, the problem is with the Synaptics Ultranav driver & Data Execution Prevention (DEP).

You have to disable DEP to fix the problem:
    1. reboot into BIOS
    2. go to Security
    3. go to Memory Protection
    4. disable Execution Prevention

There's reason that's under security. Your solution also creates a vulnerability.
