I had to do a factory restore on my T43 recently, and I finally got around to updating all of my software and drivers using the System Update program from the Lenovo website. After I did this, I noticed a pretty big increase in shutdown and startup times. I haven't installed any other software other than the updates supplied by Lenovo, so I almost certain the speed issue is related to the updates. Has anyone else run into this problem? Would I be able to fix it?

Do you mean as in like, when you logon to Windows XP when it says "loading your personal settings" it hangs there for like, 15-30 seconds before you actually start to see HDD activity? I had that problem with mine, and I narrowed it down to a couple things, mostly network oriented. I believe I just disabled my NIC and a few services (I think Terminal Services), as that was what I had read before. There are also easy tweaks for shutdown too, just google for "Registry shutdown tweak" i think, there are a ton of pages that will tell you something about certain registry values for "ApptoKill" or something like that where it waits less to kill a process/service/app before shutting down. One option will even close it all for you. I am guessing one of the updates you had was for the LAN, as one recently was released. It might've re-enabled your NIC if you had it previously disabled?

PS> Also, are you running System UPdate 3? Just wanted to make sure, because my T60 which I ordered last month came with System Update 2! That's OLD!!!!

The loading personal settings screen, and the windows screen when I first turn the computer on. I've been messing around with several tweaks, but none of them seem to work. What's the NIC?

I am running system update 3. It wasn't preinstalled, I had to download it from the Lenovo website.
