    Hi guys,

I have an R61, just 2 months old. I just did a clean install couple of days back. I didn't have this problem earlier.

I am hearing a small beep from my Thinkpad, which plays in tune with the green LED indicator for "Drive in use" (Hard disk read / write). If the green light is on, it beeps, and vice versa.

Well, another strange thing is that, it goes off completely, when I plug in my Logitech VX mouse receiver.

    Does anybody have any clue?

    Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, check your microphone playback and recording volume. Is the PLAYBACK (e.g., what you get when you double-click the speaker icon on the taskbar) volume muted?

It sounds like the microphone is just picking up notebook noise, in which case the noise going away with the mouse receiver makes sense, because the receiver's frequency creates its own, less noticeable noise.

Well, the noise has gone. I removed the receiver just now, to check. I am not sure, if it has gone permanently though.

By the way, I have Vista. So, the PLAYBACK volume is not present there (in the double click of speaker at system tray). Where would it be?

    Thanks.

Hmmm...I don't know in Vista. Does your sound card driver put its own icon on the taskbar? If so, that might have a microphone control.

Well, no other icon in system tray regd. volume. But, I found it in Control Panel anyway, and disabled it. Hopefully, I won't find the noise again.

    Thanks.
