Every 5-10 minutes, I hear a single clanging noise coming from under the keyboard. Sounds like something getting lose and dropping. Can some one help me figure out what it is? Thanks.

I have the same thing going on with my T60p 15". Just got it new a couple days ago. Sounds like the hard drive but I'm not sure. It sounds like it's coming from under the right palm rest.

Exactly...I also hear it from under the right palm rest. Like a small metal marble coming lose and hitting the bottom of the laptop. I am trying my best to describe the sound!

I heard the same damn noise, I thought it was the hard drive parking itself due to shock

sonds like we all have the 100gb 7200 seagate...whoopie. This is what you get for buying the best. So no solutions?

edit: bad news that the mac mimi had this problem back in 2005 and we still dont see seagate addressing it.

I have the seagate also. When I posted this message, I had the T60 and it was bearable. Now with the T61, it happens more often and I am getting double dropping noise. It's driving me crazy!!!

Same drive, same marble dropping sound. I hear it at least every 5-10 minutes.

I'm looking at replacing the drive with a Hitachi one because it's just plain annoying.

i like the Mac script idea that forces a small bit of data to be written to the drive, this keeps the drive for parking itself...thus no noise...anything like that for PCs?

I've gotten this noise before, but I haven't really paid much attention to how frequently it happens. As long as this doesn't harm the hard drive I really don't see it as a big deal.

it can be a big deal when you are presenting or in a "quiet" environment. it is loud enough to be heard by anyone in a small room
