I got my T60 just few days ago. I like it so far. Only one thing is making me not happy. When running on AC, open some text file big enough to scroll then scroll the content up and down. There is strange sound at the left side of the notebook. I can't explain it... some electric high noice, not very loud, but noticible in quite room. Running on bettery makes sound more quite, but not much.
Anyone has same problem? How to fix it?

My old VIAO did not have such problem so I don't think this is normal.

No, this is a different noise. I know exactly what the original poster is talking about. Many centrino laptops have it, not just lenovos (hypersonic-pc for one and dell for two). I'm not sure what it is, though it's either CPU or graphics not sure which. It's not a problem. First it's annoying, then it grows on you, and if you're like me eventually you like it. Sometimes switching back and forth between different power management schemes makes it go away, but that's only temporary.

I am getting this exact same problem and it has not grown on me.

The noise is there, and its coming right from the area a bit down from the CPU fan outlet grill. There is some ceramic cap or crystal that vibrates a bit under different load conditions, and puts out a "warbly" high pitched noise. Scrolling, bringing up the ATI video menus, and other short term CPU intensive things trigger it.

This noise exists in 100% of computers, but most systems are designed with a dab of glue/epoxy/etc blobbed on the component to dampen the vibration and noise. One of these days I am going to pinpoint exactly which thing is making this noise, and get a small enough dab of something on it to lessen the noise without voiding my warranty ;)

Please document it if you do! I would like to do the same but I am not as confident in my hardware hacking skills :p

Well, I had the keyboard off last night sticking in some more ram, and the area that makes the noise is pretty exposed, so hopefully it won't be too hard to find. Key thing will be pinpointing the thing. Might have to make some sort of funnel hooked up to a straw listening device to go part by part till it gets the loudest.

You took your keyboard out to swap the ram? On mine I just take off the touchpad bezel.

The keyboard was one more screw and I wanted to look around at the spiffiness ;)
