I updated my video card driver via System Update about 2 weeks ago and ever since I can't seem to play wc3. Each time I start up the game the screen freezes for about a minute and then the game shuts down (sometimes I even get a bluescreen along with an error message) and the color quality (the one you see when right clicking on the desktop --> Properties --> Settings) goes down from 32-bit to 4-bit (!). To fix this I have to restart the computer. Is it the new driver that's messing with me and also, what's the solution??

If it worked before and it does not know, you can bet your bottom dollar that it is the driver. Rollback to the previous one.

Did you try going back to the old driver?

Couldn't rollback the driver? Went to Properties --> Settings --> Advanced --> Adapter --> Properties --> Driver --> Roll Back Driver. Clicked on the button and then got the message that I needed to restart the computer for the changes to take effect. Thought all was well and started WC3 but got the bluescreen I was talking about again. Just looked at the video driver settings and they are the same as before. The rollback didn't take effect. :S

Still, where can I find the old version I had that worked? Lenovo has stopped offering old drivers on their FTP.

Hmm...you have no disc from Lenovo? Any other lenovo user out there willing to help?

I advise a FULL FORMAT and do not update until this issue is addressed.

If you still have your SWTOOLS folder on the C drive, you can find the driver that came installed on your machine there. I don't have an X61s, but dig around the folder and you should find it.

I'd rather take suicide than formatting my computer. ;) There's got to be another way?
Upgraded my HDD a couple of weeks ago so the rescue partition is gone.

If you prefer the horrid driver on driver on driver issue then don't format ;) and get the knife :).

lol! Like I said, there's absolutely no chance in the world I'll format my beloved X61s.

It's kind of strange this problem hasn't got any attention. Can't believe I'm the only one trusting the updates you get in System Update.

    Someone please help me!!

Noticed the CPU usage, since the update, is on 20-40% all the time so I downloaded Process Explorer the percent above is due to "Hardware Interrupts". I'm pretty sure it's because of the new crappy video card driver but since I don't longer have access to the hidden partition with all the drivers I can't rollback to the previous one. Since there's no fix for this issue (Lenovo!!) can't someone please upload the previous video card driver for X61s? This is driving me mad!!

Called Lenovo today and their best answer was to format the HDD and not upgrade to the latest video card driver. Lol?? They claimed they never heard of this problem and didn't therefore have any sensible solution. I think I'm going crazy!! Such an incompetent jerk telling me they don't longer have access to elder drivers and to consider a format and then NOT to download the updates System Update recommends you to but go to the webpage and download them from there and also NOT to upgrade to the latest video card driver. Such a brainiac!

Anyone with a suggestion of what to do?

Your OS is kahooted. Format is a must. I hope you realise this sooner than later and make the appropriate backups. If you end up in a stage where backing up will be an issue...that is bad.

If there's an issue with something THEY recommend me to download and install then the problem's not mine but THEIR. You realise the solution format and not to install something their stupid program tells me to is pretty stupid, right? Such a lousy support!

What are you on about? You came to us remember? We did not come to you to ask if something was wrong. If you don't like the options, nobody is forcing you to do anything. You are not the only one with laptop problems on NBR. You seem to rigid to accept a solution you don't like.

Feel free to try next door then....

Not my intention to be malicious but all I'm saying is that there's got to be another solution than to format...

Just wanted you to know I fixed the problem with the video card driver now. Seems I wasn't the only one having this problem:
    http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopi...30&t=72410

Found the elder driver at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for all the help I got! :)
