    Hi all,

If I don't game and battery life is more important, should I go with the Intel 950 Graphics, instead of ATI? Does Intel 950 produce less heat than ATI?

Does SXGA+ display has better quality than XGA? XGA's resolution of 1024x768 is enough for me for a 14.1" display, but I'm just wondering if its a different display which can have worse quality.

    Thanks for any feedback!

If battery life is important, you don't game, and you're fine with XGA, I would definitely go with the 950. You'll save hundreds that way, too.

Manufacturers vary, but even my wife's XGA R52 is a perfectly good screen for academic work. It's a little grainier than my T60's SXGA screen for watching movies, but that's about it.

I agree with Eagle, however I would reccomend the SXGA screen, it is much better if you will be staring at the screen for any length of time.

I think the best thing to do is check some out if you can. The 15" FlexView screen on the T60 which is available on the SXGA and UXGA screens is fantastic. The rest of ThinkPads screens are pretty average. The higher resolution screens usually come with a dediciated card.

To add on to all that, if you get a prebuilt with x1300 graphics the battery life is supposed to be significantly better than the x1400. Obviously not as good as the integrated, but you'll get higher resolution and a more responsive UI.

If you dont game and battery life is important... get an X60 or X60s

You will get 7-8 hours of real-life use on a single charge, more than double the life of a T or Z series.

Also, the XGA screen on the X-series is, IMO, better than the XGA on the T... i think it's the compactness plus the Samsung build.

The Flexview screen is *really* nice. But it's only in 15", weighs over 2.5 pounds more than the X and only lasts 30-40% as long on battery.

You seriously need to stop talking about your X60, SkiBunny. Everytime the urge to pick up an X60s to complement my T60 starts to fade, here you come. If they start shipping the ultralight to the US again I'm screwed.

    Thanks for all the replies.

The X60s with Core Duo L2400 is really tempting! Only 16% smaller screen than 14.1", but ~2lb lighter and 2x more battery life.

In comparison to T60, how hot does it get? How loud it is during normal load: typing/web?

I think you should check something out with the Core 2 Duo, it's more energy efficient and up to 40% faster than it's Core Duo counterpart ;)

40% faster? Where did you get this information?

MAYBE if you compare a t7600 2.33 vs. a t2300 1.66 you MIGHT see a 40%, which i doubt. and many benchmarks have already shown that they do not use less juice than the core duo.

Yeah, really! I sometimes wonder if the X60/s wouldn't have been even better for me, since I have a desktop.

But then again, I'm 6'4" and a former college football player, so I tell myself I can bear the extra weight. ;)

I am talking up the the X so that i can re-sell it here for a better price :)

Dont envy me guys... I only have an X60, not an X60s (tho i cannot tell the difference having used them both).

Sometimes i wish i had the Z61t instead of an X, maybe the Z hits the sweet spot beacuse the Z traveller has 30% more pixels even in XGA, a built-in optical and it's inbetween the X and the T in terms of weight/size. Today I need the optical.

However,.. the X is really nice for taking to & from work daily, compared to anything I've had before. It slips into my purse and i dont need to take an AC adapter anywhere because i run 7+ hours on batt. Plus with WWAN i finally have achieved portability bliss.

But today i needed an optical... which is baack at home groooooan.

    Only the T has flexview.

Pros & cons of each model.
Dammit i need one of each!!! hahaha

haha well I'd rather have 1200x800 over 1024x768.
I'd rather have the 1400x1050 flexview even way more!... but i dont wanna carry it or pay for it

I don't know, I haven't carried mine anywhere yet, but I don't think it's going to be too bad. I'll have a bag this week or next, so I'll find out then. I would definitely like an X60s or P7120 for notes and onsite service calls, but I'll have to see. I might have to make the decision between an htpc and an ultraportable. Maybe I'll just pitch the X60 for POS systems at work so I can play with them there and get the urges out of my system.

Every once in awhile I go through this funk where I hate money with absolute passion. Then I find something new I want to spend it all on :p

Anybody compared heat/noise levels of X60(s) to T60?
