Hi All,
I am looking to get a new ThinkPad in the next 30 days (or so) - anyone know about the successor to the T60? (T6X)
Just want to find out what might be changing and if it might be good to hold up for the new model.
Thanks!
-
The successor, if there is one, will most likely come out with Santa Rosa in Q2
-
the next thinkpad will be the thinkpad t80. it will come with a 2.0 megapixel webcam, option for a glossy screen, 14inch widescreen model, windows ultimate, and all in the lightest package yet: under 4.5 pounds.
this will come out within 3 months. -

i have a special chinese contact who invents these ibm notebooks and he said lenovo will shake up the boring old thinkpads.
new management at lenovo is innovation drive, much like apple and steve jobs is, and we should see good things in the very near future.
you gotta understand, lenovo and ibm are completely different. under the reigns of the new chinese, things are going to change, as i'm sure you've already seen - drastically.
only bigger changes are to come...the chinese management dind't want to shake things up so much at first with hte t60, but since they have built trust with many customers, the important ones, at least, they are now pursuing a complete reinvention of the thinkpad, and it will start with their flagship, t60 model.
the best comes to those who wait. -
with purchasing IBM by lenovo.
The quality became much poorer.
I want IBM,
IBM , please come back to us!!!!!! -
I just hope they dont break that IBM identity with square classic all black design.....
-
Also, checkout the blog the folks in Raleigh run www.lenovoblogs.com, they're really a talented and thoughtful group of designers, I wouldn't knock them. -
-
This dude called Chinese "clearly the superior race." Either he was kidding or he is just BSing us. You don't say something like that if you don't want questions raised about your validity. Take it or leave it, I think this guy is wack.
-
-
I wouldn't really call it racism. Due to the low wages in China, many low-costing goods are made there. It's a stereotype.
-
Perhaps it was someone at factory where ThinkPads are made. I would think they would consulted along the way. To say ThinkPads didn't innovate while under IBM shows your clear lack knowledge, at least on this subject. -
lol. beyond bizarre. forget this.
-
Lenovo is headquartered in North Carolina, which the last time I checked is pretty far from China.
-
By the way, I think the successor to T60 will be T61 .
Do you remember they produced T41 as a successor to T40.
IMO ,unless It's a major change, it should be T61 -
T60, T61, T62

Furthermore, it is non sensible to accuse Samsung for producing bad screens in general. A pioneer in the LCD industry, Samsung makes many beautiful screens. It is not like they produce poor screens on purpose, especially for a top tier model like the T60. Rarely do contracting issues, which is simply what I believe this boils down to, benefit the consumer. -
This guy is so ridiculously lying it's not even funny. First off, he "can't reveal his position of relation to Lenovo." That's bull ****. Secondly, he is calling the Chinese the "superior race" and the "future rulers of the world."
Thirdly, he is making up almost everything about this new "T80." He said Lenovo didn't want to change the T60 too much at first, but didn't IBM make the T60? I could be wrong, but I believe IBM made the T60 before selling out to Lenovo. Therefore, the T series has not yet been affected by Lenovo (thank god).
He has no idea what he's talking about. A 2 megapixel web cam? What so we can have virtual meetings at work? Don't forget these are primarily business notebooks, not multimedia notebooks. Also, Windows Vista Ultimate? Bull ****. Why is would a business notebook need Windows Ultimate. I don't think any bosses let you watch DVDs and play games at work. If you know some let me know.
This is 100% bull ****.

hehehe nice 2MP webcams
i doubt it
t80 - cool name, leaps of transition from "60"
i guess it would be named as T61
T20 - T21.. T23
T40 - T41... T43
Z60 - Z61
X20 - X21.. X24
X40 - X41
or maybe it will be T60s
i agree with Mturco11x... no business laptop with an ultimate -
Except for its durability and perhaps better keyboard, Thinkpad is inferior in high price, bad display, noisy fan and the stubbornness of its users to admit any of its flaws.
I am happy that I returned my T43P and get a HP dv2000t. -
1 - High price: Not really. They are somewhat more expensive but not unreasonably. Plus, you get what you pay for.
2 - Bad display: Incorrect. There screen quality is not bad. It isn't quite as bright as I'd like it to be, but there's nothing terrible about it.
3 - Noisy fan: My T60 makes little to no noise. It goes on rarely and when it does, it is a low hum. The older T42s and T43s have louder fans, though.
4 - Stubbornness of its users to admit any flaws: I have no problem saying ThinkPads have some, yet few, problems. Such as screen brightness, the battery not being perfectly attached, and other problems. This is very much a generalization. Most users are not stubborn.

It will be a world where dominance will be costly and cooperation will be beneficial.
2. Qualities of Chinese products are picking up and some of them are above the world standards. But in terms of innovation, China still has a long way to go.
China is business oriented and will not become a hegemony.
3. If U.S is continuing to over-stretch itself as it is doing now, its power will inevitably decline.
4. The importance of states will gradually give way to the International organizations and intra-national organizations. The distributed governance (as manifested in Linux development) will become the new way to organize social life.
Eventually, states will disappear and many many eons later, the earth will become a small unit in Galaxy Confederacy. -
Noisy fan? not on my T60...
To an extent, I agree that the Chinese will dominate the world "in terms of business growth" but not quite yet. (perhaps in 10 years time)
We already see that Chinese cars will be soon imported to the US. They will be even cheaper than Korean cars and with my belief, they will sell. The same will happen with computer products.
MSI is also a Chinese brand and they make one of the cheapest-but-reliable motherboards for desktop as far as I know. Best bang for the buck.
I never heard of Lenovo before they bought the Thinkpad from IBM.. but I doubt many of you heard of LG before they started importing flat panel screens and cell phones into the US. I'm a Korean and I've known LG for quite a longgg time and they made refrigerators and microwaves for decades, and still do.
Lucky Goldstar was their original name. -
Dear mliu,
Let me begin by saying that I cannot reveal my position or relationship to the Chinese race. Suffice to say, the Chinese are not unlike the rest of the world where people believe in the inherent "superiority" of their own race, which means that the bloated sense of their own importance and the following distortions of reality are NEVER COMPLETELY GONE. Now, with the relatively new idea that a generalization based upon race or nationality can be very dangerous, misleading and offensive, it would be expected that everyone will behave more rationally toward each other and the rest of the world, and never say things like "I am not being racist but realistic." In fact, the whole system of slavery was justified on grounds very similar to that sentiment.
The age of racial generalization is, hopefully, over; our perception of the wold is growing and continues to grow. Rational thought will surpass unreliable generalization, and thus when you say that the Chinese is the "superior" race, you are not expressing facts, but merely an opinion, an opinion that has led to many weird and embarrassing (and sometimes tragic) results in our collective history. -
Lenovo was once called "Legend" in English. I guess they think the name sucks so changed the name. "Legend" was and still is the largest PC manufacturer of China.
Thinkpad T60: no s-video, no card-reader (businessmen don't have SD card? ridiculous), no small wide-screen, no web-cam (businessmen don't need webcam?), no remote control
By the way, thinkpad screen is not good and why not wide screen?
Besides, I abhor its marketing tricks. Since they can make a lot profits with the low price of Christmas sale, why don't they always keep the price low and sell more?
Lenovo may charge %15 restocking fee for returns while hp doesn't.
Hp also has price protection policy and it the price is lowered after the purchase, customers can require credit of the price differences.
HP has longer office hours and it is very easy for customers to 'escalate' the case to manager and supervisor.
Lenovo users wake up. -
The average businessmen do not need webcams. You are certainly correct on that.
The Thinkpad is a premium product. Just like Godiva chocolate has a huge mark up compared to your everyday Hershey Bar, the Thinkpad is a nice tasting business-class notebook. -
Chang Ken is a Chinese name, and I am glad that you are clear-minded in this respect, not enshrouded by the fervent nationalism.
But Chinese should indeed stand proudly. The more I read Chinese history the more I feel the heaviness of the sufferings, and at the same time compelling achievements. -
-
If you even want a remote control on a business notebook, you clearly fail to understand what a business notebook is and what a media center notebook is. -
Johnny, you can delete your post by clicking 'Edit' and checking the 'Delete' box. Just to let you know for future reference.

First off, the assertion that a webcam is unnecessary for a businessman is completely incorrect. In fact, in this day and age, where businessmen work more and more, it leaves them with lesser time to meet other people. Indeed, you see a boom in the internet dating / meeting people on the internet phenomenon precisely for this reason: that people, in general, are busier and busier and have less time to connect. I don’t think it would be an overstatement to say that this effect is magnified for businessmen. Thus, the purpose of the webcam is clear: To meet others. How? Well a webcam is one way of conversing online—take a look at the newest msn messenger. Having “webcam” chats will become more and more popular. Businessmen can post “videos” of themselves in their profiles for online dating sites by using their webcam. Webcam where? Yes, webcam on the newest IBM Thinkpad T series. If dating sites don’t have this feature—of posting videos of yourself in your profile—yet I will advise my good friend, one of the heads of match.com.
From the replies, it seems that the general consensus is that we are moving towards a global economy, and thus, that no race will be “superior” because we will all be more accepting of each other because we will be working together more and be in contact more. I won’t disagree with this. All I am saying is that even though we are moving towards a global economy, superiority of one class—or race, or whatever you want to call it—of people is inevitable. In my views, the superior race will by default have to be the Chinese because of the huge population there. Think about it, the larger the pool of people, the greater the probability that “exceptional” people will exist in that pool. It is these truly exception individuals that are the most successful, and who dominate the world politically and financially. Because there is a larger pool of people, so to speak, in the Asian world than in the American world, it is, I believe, not too much a stretch to conclude that there will be more successful people out of the larger pool of Asian people.
Therefore, it is the Asians, specifically, the Chinese, who will dominate the world. I am not saying the Chinese race is better or worse than any other—all people are equal—or believing, as one poster wrongly concluded, the, “inherent” superiority of the Chinese. No race is inherently superior. But through demographic dominance, the Chinese is superior by rationality. Even if I wasn’t Asian myself, I would have come to the same conclusions based on the above reasoning. -
No, as stated before, the average businessmen do not need a webcam.
While you and perhaps 1% of white collar people may need a webcam, the rest of them do not. -
OK, I have been reading and trying to stay away from this ridiculous discussion (nice try mliu to yank everybody's chain), but its just too much. You are not only know people at the top of Lenovo, but also at match.com? Wow
BTW, with all your insightful info about a necessity of webcam (why not a net meeting for telecommuting home office, but rather dating?!?) I can only suggest you one thing: talk to your friends at match.com so they can set you up with a nice girl (or a guy if you are a girl) because you need to get a life outside of the Laptop web forum with your clearly pro-racist statements
-
hmmm... i'm at lost in here... hehe what's with this chinese-thingy discussion.
anyway, i don't see why a business man need a SD card. maybe some, but not the majority.
some do need that webcam. but most don't.
maybe less features on a laptop (w/o sd card slot, webcam) makes a more reliable laptop. you won't have webcam problems if you don't have a webcam
some Z's does have the memory card reader and webcam. maybe that's what you want. (i don't know who i'm talking to right now). also, my fan's too quiet, playing BF2142 on med settings and still quiet but still provides cooling. no noise even on my harddrive. maybe it's just luck. -
China is dominant in ping-pong, badminton and diving and women's volleyball.
My prediction is that China will rise peacefully as a world power. But it has a long way to go. -
A lot of these comments from you guys are pretty ridiculous.
This exactly what miliu wants you to do. -
what is this soccer topics come from, what's the next topic? communism?
lets stick to the original one. Lenovo sucks, and that's because their own laptop
they made ( I don't need to name what model) have proved they aren't great in making laptops. The ppl that they hire are good engineers, but their philosophy sucks. Thinkpads selling in circuit city, in a few years later you might think a acer or a gateway is better than a thinkpad -

troll alerts (numerous)
what a bunch of crapola on many fronts in this thread.
ROTFLMFAO -
Wow... since when did NBR get an AzN PriDe troll?
我是广东人 ... But as a fellow Chinese, cut it out -- you're just making all of us look bad.
Nonetheless, looking forward to the T61 and all the goodies it shall bring -- more specifically the 14.1" WS. -
The t61 will be completely redesigned, remastered, and renewed. It is the first product that lenovo itself actually designed. It is revolutionary. They were tempted to call this new line of thinkpads the T80, but the chinese, they are so innovative, that they have plenty of new ideas for the future models of thinkpads, even though this t61 model will itself be an incredible divergence from the typical thinkpad in all aspects. From my sources, I have garnered that there will be a yellow color option, in which the whole thinkpad is yellow rather than black. This is just one of the many innovativenesses of the chinese. If you'd want more information, ask me specific questions about the new t61 and I will converse with my sources and get back to you. You're welcome.
-
mliu, I'm convinced now that the Chinese are superior in every way to other races. I wouldn't want anybody else innovating on my notebook, although they pretty much suck ass at customer service. For screwing me over I think I'll never buy a Lenovo computer ever again. I like yellow.
-
A mod might want to put an end to this immaturity. The racist tirades on this thread from mliu are upsetting.

yea mliu, y are u so serious about race stuff, jeeze lighten up, theres no point in being so serious
