Hi guys.
I really want to ditch my crappy Acer and go for a Thinkpad but I want to know what you T60 owners think of the screens. How bright are they in general? I hear a few people say they're a bit dim. I have bad eyes and brightness+contrast is an issue.
Secondly, how do the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950's fair for stuff like Google Earth and Quake 3? Those are probably the only two 3D things I'd use. I don't game on notebooks but Quake 3 is always handy to have for those lunch breaks![]()
Or should I wait for the T61 to come out? My budget isn't very big.
The model I'm considering reads: UY163ZA 6372-63G
T60: Core 2 T5500(1.66GHz) 1 GB, 80GB/5400rpm SATA, 15.4" WXGA TFT, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 up to 128MB , DVD-RW Multiburner Dual Layer, Modem, Gigabit, Centrino Duo 11a/b/g, Bluetooth, FPR, 6 cell, Win XP Pro , Warranty: 3 years

In fact the T61 is out. The only T61s that aren't out are the T61p which has a higher end graphics card and the T61 15.4" with a dedicated graphics card. Since you seem to be happy with integrated video the x3100 while not a gaming card can handle older games well as it's just good enough to make do with vista and simple 3D applications. What is your budget?

I want to first see how the T61 handles Linux too, which is another factor but it's not the biggest factor.
I'd prefer a low to medium range Nvidia card, which also works better in Linux.
My budget, up to R13,000 .. if you devide that by 7 you'll get the US$ but it's not really a comparable amount so I don't know how you're going to make reccomendations for someone in South Africa (me)
Suggestions about T60.
