Hello,
I got a x220t and it has 1x 4gb "DDR3 SDRAM - 1333 MHz - PC3-10600"
So all I need is another 1 stick of 4g "DDR3 SDRAM - 1333 MHz - PC3-10600 " to make it dual channel right? Does brand, cas latency and timing matter at all?
Also when it says PC3-##### what does the number mean?
-
I believe the brand shouldn't matter, but your RAM will default to the slowest speed of any individual stick (i.e. the highest latency/timing).
-
assuming ur comp maxes out at 8gb just buy another stick with at least the specs of the stick you already have. brand doesnt matter.
idk what pc3 means but dont worry about it unless its just out of curiosity -
PC3 just depicts that it is DDR3 RAM, I believe. The 10600 is 8 x 1333 floored to the nearest hundred. I believe it is something like the bit transfer per second. But yeah, just match it with another DDR3 1333MHz module with 9-9-9-24 (I'm assuming that's the timing on your current stick) timings and it should be fine.

The 10600 is the maximum guaranteed clock speed of the chip. Unless you're overclocking, you'd never see that speed, so just go with whichever value is cheapest.

Or, if you want to splurge, get the Kingston HyperX. 8GB cost me about $135, but it tests out at about 70% faster than the stock RAM.

Edit: nevermind, it seems to affect the IGP... interesting. I guess if gaming is a concern (on the integrated GPU) and you can justify the price difference for what seems to be a 10% increase in FPS in games, then go for it?
