Help me decide:
I just got my replacement unit from Lenovo. I've had a keyboard flex problem with my first unit, and this has the same problem. The problem is that the keyboard flex around the Delete button. I've read people have all sort of different issues with this laptop and it makes me nervous that it doesn't seem like a laptop that can last me for a few years. The specs are great and it plays every game I want to play on pretty much the highest settings, but I think build quality and reliability is more important than those specs. This laptop I received has no problem with the touchpad. I like everything on this laptop except that I'm worried about the reliability. I don't want to keep this laptop if I have to return it for repair every once a while.
So should I return this laptop and spend more money on an Asus, Apple or Lenovo thinkpad?

it depends, really. for me, the problems that those people have are negligible. i'm no perfectionist. as long as it plays the games i want, then no problem for me. what i love about the y500 compared to others is that it is less pricey, lighter, and slimmer.

I'm about to return my second Y500 unit. The first one had a bunch of stuck pixels and the left clickpad button was defective. The second unit had a hardware malfunction while gaming over the weekend and is no longer able to do so without black screening and locking up. I'm getting my last replacement and if it's not a keeper I'm returning the laptop and looking elsewhere. I'm not expecting a perfect product but these are game-breaking issues and absolutely inexcusable for a $1000 laptop.

Mine is the $799 single 750M I can't find anything with similar specs with this price, so a 10mins fix worth it. -
I don't get especially bad keyboard flex around the Delete key like you do, at least not any more than on the rest of the keyboard. I like the keyboard a lot. The keys have satisfying feedback and flex is minimal to non-existant except a tiny bit in the corners. I really have to mash the keys hard to see any movement. Overall, it feels very solid.

I am so glad someone but me noticed this keyboard flex. The first laptop I got the keyboard was so crappy. There was flex all over the sides, and some keys scraped. And the spacebar, and tab key kept squeaking.
So I asked for a replacement, and the new one is better. However this one has a faulty battery, and lenovo just decided to send me a replacement instead of a new battery. So hopefully this new laptop will be perfect.
But I really don't understand why lenovo is putting a very cheap keyboard is a 1000 dollar machine. I understand there are corners to cut to bring the price down, but the keyboard definitely should not be one in a gaming laptop.
Anyways Im in the same boat, this 2nd replacement will tell me if I am keeping lenovo or going to another brand. Heck I wanted an ultrabook before these amazing deals came out for the y500.

Well I've returned two of them because of the touchpad. It just sucks, it feels cheap and all the pad is moving when I lightly press and unpress it. This results in extremely imprecise clicks, barely usable. I thought the first one was broken but I was astonished when I received the second one with the same problem. Bad quality, and nothing to do with the wrong drivers people talked about.
If used with a mouse, then this would have been a very good laptop with excellent specs for the price. But I just need a good touchpad, especially on something worth 1000$ -

Should have never bought a y400/y500 in April and May in the first place unless you really needed it to earn a living or for school. There are great new tech coming out in early June like the new MSI GE40, GE60, possible Alienware m13x or M14x R3, all with GTX 760m high end card or better with Haswell cpu.

I would've waited if I didn't have to return to my university in a month
