My T61p doesn't have arabic keys, which I currently need in my job. The only option I have is a "cheap" laser printing job that eventually fades away and looks really bad. Or I can get an external keyboard, which I really don't want to do because the main reason I like thinkpads is the keyboard.

I have a T60 that was purchased from Kuwait and has arabic keys. Should I just swap the keyboards? Is it doable? Is it easy to do?

The T60 is a 14" whereas the T61p is a 15", I'm not sure if it would fit. I don't have them both on me as of now, so I can't check. I was hoping to have the surgery done this weekend. Any advice?

Oh, the T60 is 3 years old but is in excellent condition. No signs of ware on the keyboard, accept minor shinning around the trackpad which I don't mind.

    Help me please :)

I made it too long to read? Forget the above and please answer this:

    Would the keyboard of a 14" T60 fit in a 15" T61p laptop?

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe T61p and T60 are the same keyboard. I'd say, worst case, pop them open and try it. See if it matches/works. Just be careful not to break anything, and worst case, you're back where you started.

I'd like to say it's possible. There are a number of parts that remain the same from Lenovo's transition from the T60s to T61s. I know for sure that the battery, screen, and perhaps the palmrest were carried over from the T60 line.

I am not sure if a 14" would fit into a 15.4". I would think a 15.4" would fit into another 15.4". My guess is no it wouldn't work, but I don't know the dimensions either.

Judging by some pictures it looks like they share the same keyboard, but you'll never know unless you try it.

I don't think it would fit!
Because while they are the same size, the one for 14.1'' uses 4 screws, while the 15.4'' uses 3 screws.
I had the same problem with my thinkpad, not sure if Lenovo has changed anything.

i think the keyboards should be the same size, i don;t think IBm would make a mistake and desigbn multiple keyboards or customized keyboards for each laptop, so ya it should fit in my opinion.

I think the keyboards are the same size, but Hao brings up a good point about the hardware used to attach them to the chassis.

I think there's just a software setting that you can make to tell your computer that you're using an Arabic keyboard, and then type as if you were actually using one. The letters coming out won't make sense if you actually look at the keyboard while you type but if you're proficient enough to type on an Arabic keyboard without looking then you shouldn't know the difference... maybe look at an Arabic keyboard as you type as a reference. إثشاو ÷ ت عسف فثسفثي هف شىي هف صخقنثي بهىثز. <-- That was me saying "Yeah, I just tested it and it works fine" with the keyboard set to Arabic. In Vista it's in the control panel > region and language options > keyboards and languages > change keyboards.

The T61 14W and T61p use the same keyboards and they are interchangable.
