Swapping the motherboard of a t420s into a t410s body?
    Is it possible?
I looked at the t420s and it looks just the same as my computer.

I have owned a T410s for 2.5 years now and it would be nice to be able to get some more power out of it.
    Any ideas?

Uhh are you solely basing it off WEI? It is not even a benchmark. The CPU is BGA soldered onto the motherboard AFAIK, and both GPU options for the T410s aren't really meant for gaming, the NVS 3100M or Intel HD graphics. T410s also uses 1.8" SATA drive, so you will need to find a 1.8" SSD if you don't already have one.

Not possible, as they're entirely different dimensions (T410s is 16:10 ratio, T420s is 16:9 ratio). If you're looking for gaming performance, the T420s isn't the best option either; take a look at the W520 for a better alternative.

WEI = Windows Experience Index, a horrible way to judge the performance of a system.

    Relative to?

System boot time? Application launching? Raw number crunching? Twenty tabs in browser? Fifteen concurrently active applications? Watching YouTube video clips? Media transcoding? Media transcoding while watching MKV movie and compiling C# code?

Maybe more RAM? Maybe a SSD upgrade? Maybe a clean Windows install?

BTW, finding a 1.8" drive (especially a HDD that works fast) for the T410s may be difficult.

T420 isn't great for gaming, but it gets the job done for me. I like to play Left 4 Dead 2 on mine a lot when I'm over at friends' houses, and the NVS 4200 can play it on low-medium at 30-40 FPS with no problems. If I want to seriously game, I'll do it on my desktop (GTX 460 SLI rig).

I'd say, get an SSD. That will be a HUGE upgrade. Next, upgrade the RAM to 8GB, it's cheap to do (cost me $40 for 8GB DDR3). Those two upgrades will give you a huge leap in performance.

Best bang for your buck, instead of buying a new machine.

What exactly are you trying to improve? What workloads need better performance? If you figure out where your bottlenecks are, perhaps we can provide some additional suggestions.

Could you also post a full spec list? Maybe we can recognize some bottlenecks. I notice that you have integrated video. If you're looking to boost video performance, maybe consider a ViDock/eGPU?

Also, make sure your drivers are up-to-date. That can help a bit with performance.
