I have the Y470 with switchable graphics, NVidia GT 550M and Intel HD 3000. These are the only drivers I regularly update from the NVidia, and the Intel site. From the first day I received my system, I noticed that the NVidia control panel did not contain any tab under "Select a Task" for the "display" setting. However, in each new NVidia driver release, it shows that I should have the display tab setting, in their release notes. I just applied the new 306.23 driver, and under the NVidia system info it shows that I have the display drivers loaded, but don't have the "Display Tab". See this picture:

I've been working with the NVidia support staff, and they had me roll back the driver to the 295.73 doing a clean install, from the "Safe" mode. That didn't make any difference, I still didn't have the display tab. I re-installed the 306.23 driver after this test.

So I can only assume that with Lenovo's switchable video drivers, the Intel HD 3000 driver overrides the display tab ability of the NVidia GT 550M. I don't really see this as a problem, only a curious issue.

Can any one of you confirm that? I think that all Y470/570, and Y480/580, with switchable graphics should be in the same boat. If you have the switchable graphics, do you have the NVidia display tab? If you do, what driver version are you employing?

    Thanks a bunch,

I'm using 301.42. I see the display tab just fine.

    Thanks Kobby2k6, and Fletchman1313.

It appears that Kobby2k6's Y470 does not have the display tab, and Fletchman1313's Y570 does. So this issue is only with the Y470.

I don't know why, but it's really not that big a deal for me. I only noticed it after reading the notes, on my last NVidia driver upgrade. Heck, most of the time I have the NVidia switch turned off. I run everything on the Intel HD 3000. I'm not a gamer, and the only 3D I need is from this NASA site:

    J-Track 3D Satellite Tracking - NASA Science

I'm going to file this under "weird NVidia issue" and close.

Once again, thanks for the info.

Hmm, actually, my control panel looks like Kobby 2K6's too. I thought the display tab was the one you were looking for.

Thanks for double checking Fletchman1313. According to the NVidia support staff, it should have the Display option. However, I suspect that with the Lenovo switchable graphics, the Intel HD 3000 control panel overrides the NVidia display functionality.

Edit: After I posted, I noticed that this is my 100th post. Happy Century mark!
