I just played around with various bios settings for the GPU and ran into a problem that I'm not sure is by design or is by something not being right.

With the discrete-only (switchable disabled) the ATI driver alone is not able to deal with my external UXGA monitor driven through the dock's DVI port. It cannot give me a 4:3 resolution greater than XGA and it cannot deal with switching between internal and external displays.

Only when I fire up Lenovo's presentation director and set monitor preferences there that I can sort this out (turn off laptop display and set external monitor to UXGA).

Can someone explain how presentation director works with the ATI controller? What would happen if I uninstalled the presentation director software? Would I lose the ability to control displays properly? I'm baffled by the ATI software's inability to deal with this relatively simple setup.
