    Hi:

I currently own an Acer Aspire 5004WLMi with a DVD-Dual (DVD+/-RW Double Layer).
Im planning on getting the T60p and purchasing a minimal cd drive. i was wondering if I can switch these after I get the T60p. Is it possible to do it manually? If so, is it a hard job to do solo or should i have someone experienced do it?

I know, I just realized after I posted it that this thread should be in the hardware section. Sorry :/

yes its possible but you have to exchange both drives face plate.
removed both drives from laptop. i believed on the acer there are 2 screws underneath the laptop that you have to remove. poke the eject hole to open drive bay and pull drive gently. the t60P i dont know. now once you remove drive, keep drive bay open. turn drive underneath and you will see 3 plastic clips that hold the face plate. get a small flat head jeweler screw driver and start pushing that plastic clip on the right side. there is also a small plastic clip right next to it and finally unclip the left most clip. that should do it. when you took out both plastic face plate, make sure both 3 clips alligns. so you won't have any problem exchanging face plates. once both are installed make sure both drives are detected thru bios. it has to be detected as secondary slave. or check both drives first on device manager before parting out 2 drives.

The drive from your Acer won't fit. It is too big height wise.

The ThinkPad T60 use a super slim 9.5mm height drive whereas most other laptop drives are 12.7mm in height like the one on your Acer. It is too big to fit. It is the reason the T60 can be an inch thick. It is also the reason they stick us with crappy Matshita drives cause they are the only ones who make the slim drives.
