    Hey guys,

I am waiting for my T61 to be shipped like everyone else and am having second thoughts about choosing Vista Home Premium over XP Pro. After reading the horror stories of certain programs/functions not working, driver issues, etc, I might go back to XP Pro if Vista is going to be too much of a hassle.

My question is, should I call up Lenovo and change the OS before it ships (If this is even possible) or should I just fresh install XP Pro from the disc which I already own.

If I do install it from my own disc, how difficult is it going to be to restore all of the T61 functions such as ThinkVantage, etc?

I really appreciate your input. Thanks!

Depending on how far along it is you may have to cancel.

If you have a copy of XP Pro that you don't intend on using again, then there's no problem putting it on the new laptop. The first thing you'll need to do is go into your BIOS and change your SATA mode from ACHI --> COMPATIBILTY so you can install XP Pro.

The last thing you need to do is download your drivers and utilities. Here's the website in case you decide to switch to XP. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/s...yind=0&operatingsystemind=53385&validate=true

My honest suggestion is to make a system backup of your hard drive when your lappy arrives. Try Vista and form your own opinion and see what you think, like or dislike about the OS. Compare it to XP and then make your decision.

I've been warming up to Vista the more I use it. 2 gigs of ram is the sweet spot, anymore and it runs even better. :)

Interestingly, just a minority of T61's have been built with Vista, even consumer purchases.

Reportedly almost no corporate purchases have been configured with vista yet.

This is not surprising at all. There is no real need for Vista except for those who want to sell more powerful computers with more memory, bigger hard drives etc. Especially for pro's - they don't need software glitches, non-compatible devices, drivers and other problems that always come with new OS.
