I'm thinking of getting a thinkpad T60 with the 14.1" display and ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 - 64 MB graphics. The native resolution is 1400 x 1050. I'm wondering if it's possible to switch between the native resolution and XGA (1024 x 768). When you do this, does the viewable area shrink on the display, or does the video stretch to fill the whole display? If it stretches, does it look "okay"?
I'm used to working at the higher res on my old thinkpad, but it would be nice to be able to switch back to XGA under certain circumstances.

the native resolution of displays cannot be changed but you have the option either to extend the window to the full screen or to have black borders and a window in the middle of the screen. When it stretches it looks like any other LCD and smoothfont helps some. Generally if you can't see well, stick with a XGA and don't get SXGA unless u have high def videos and large spreadsheets.

I also read somewhere (maybe on this forum) that the Thinkpads with dedicated video tend to be brighter than those with the shared memory video.
And while I'd like the extre screen real estate of SXGA+ for when I'm coding, I think that web browsing might be more comfortable at 1024 x 768.
Guess I'm trying to have my cake and eat it, too - maybe that's not possible. -
Personally I'd go SXGA+, but I love high-res.
