    Hi,

System update worked fine for a while and then suddenly I keep getting the error message 'An error occurred gathering user information'.

Ive uninstalled and reinstalled but keep getting the same error message.

Has anyone got any info on resolving this?

    Thanks

    Well,
I think you did your search on Internet for this issue.
So did I and found nothing relevant, tried many thinks to fix it.
I think, that my problem was caused by accidentally deleting some files from my hard drive (not any System update files!!), thus it was missing to gather the user information.
The only thing that helped was very trivial:

    just navigate to

    C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\

    and run the

    "tvsu.exe" file

As I explain it to myself is that, it reloads the user information adn recreates the file(s) it was missing-not sure this was the case though

The bottom line: It worked for me, hope it'll work for you too...

I have the same problem...tried matuz's solution and it doesn't work. All it does is run the System Update program again, which puts you back into square one when you click on the "get new updates" menu option.

    Any other clues?

i had this problem on a lenovo thinkpad x60 with a company build of xp sp2 (not home build), had this before on xp and never solved it. anyway logged in as the administrator account and tried instead of my domain admin account and it now works, therefore must be a permissioning problem somewhere. thanks

I just experienced the same problem on an XP Pro T61. I had lost the C: drive and did a full system restore from Lenovo supplied disks. I installed XP SP3 before running Lenovo System Update. There are lots of stories on the net about various sources and fixes to this problem, but rather than muck about in the registry, uninstalling System Update and installing the 15 May 2009 version seems to have done the trick. Sorry, I don't have a link handy, just look on Lenovo's support site.
