I know there are new bios updates availble for my W520 since Windows 8 started popping up, but just installed system update and it dont detect any updates? Is it not possible to update bios that way yet? I dont have CDs to burn on

IMO, CD's are cheaper than a new laptop. Do yourself a favor and update your BIOS from a CD. Updating from Windows has been known to be somewhat risky.

However, if you are determined, you can download the update from Lenovo. Actually either one.

Just wondering can you not update from USB stick rather than CD? or will it only accept the optical drive.

I am also one for updating BIOS outside of Windows. Can anyone recommend any links that go through the boot flash process for Lenovo Thinkpads?
