if i use the system update utility on my thinkpad r60 it says there ain't any new updates, but if i go manually to the internet and check using the lenovo site i find lot's of updates.
For example my system update did detect there was a new rescue and recovery(but couldn't install) but since i have installed it manually it doesn't detect there is a new client security solutions.
    So what's wrong?

It seems the new RR requires also updating the Client Security (or the reverse) and I've passed this update. I've also noticed very few updates with the System Update and found out what is on my drive is already up to date (I've received my T60 less than a week ago).

I have also received my thinkpad only a week ago, so i asume everything should be up to date on my thinkpad to? How can you check this?
But still i wonder why it didn't find the client security solutions 7 although my system even stated i couldnt use the old client security solutions.

I updated Rescue and Recovery a few days ago and then had to download and install Client Security Solution 7.0 manually. System Update didn't detect the new Client Security Solution. When I updated Rescue and Recovery there was a warning about having to reinstall Client Security Solution.

Currently, the Software Installer seems to catch more "updates" than the system update utility, although not all. What I've heard/read is that IBM is working on System Updater to eventually replace Software Installer, at which point, it should catch all the available updates. Until then, your best bet would be to check the website for updates every now and then.

hmmm, too bad. I actually prefer to use the Software Installer. I manually download all available and applicable (to my T60) updates from the website regularly. Extract it to my harddrive and run Software Installer.

I've found out the RnR also updates the RnR environment in the hidden partition. So when you restore your computer to factory settings, RnR and CSS are not installed. I am sure that CSS is not installing because it requires the latest Fingerprint software (version 5.5) which is not part of the original factory settings. But I don't know why RnR is not installing, maybe because of CSS (???). You then have to manually install RnR and CSS (after you've updated the Fingerprint software).

thnx, for the replies, one last question before i start to download everything, how can i know what to download and what not, so in short where can i view the version numbers. And i read something about a software installer, what do you mean? the regular installer you download or some special program besides the system update.

in the lenovo website, search for your model number. in the result, click Support and Downloads, then Downloads and Drivers. Under most circumstance, all the available downloads apply to your thinkpad model. But to be sure, check the download page for each update for the thinkpad model that the download applies to.
Software Installer is a program that came installed with the thinkpad. You can find it in ThinkVantage program group. Like the System Update, it can search the lenovo website for updates. But the feature that I like is you can also use the updates you manually downloaded and extracted to the local harddrive.
