Hi there. I have been looking at a new toy for a while but after my whole search for an X200s and with the speakers etc being not up to standard, the video playback issue of the X200 CCFL screens ... I have decided to go another way.

I have decided I will get a bigger heavier better machine for home, and on the road I will ditch lenovo for a simple Samsung NC10 netbook ... it has OK speakers, webcam, it's light, plays back all movies without a glitch. At home/office I will then either use a T61 series or a T400.

Are there any T61 series that come with a webcam? And are there any CCFL T400s that have a webcam or just the LED model? I am sure the speakers on either one of these are adequate. Weight I am guessing around 4.5 pounds ?

    Thanks

Yes, the T400 has webcam options for both CCFL and LED models. The speakers, which I assume are the same as the T500's are not spectacular, but are acceptable.

The weight of the T400 will depend on the battery size, but it will fall within that general area.

Although, to question your plan: why not just get a desktop, if you're planning to leave that machine at home and use a netbook for on-the-go? A desktop will give you much more power for much cheaper.

Yes I know the logical choice of desktops but for home and garden use laptop I prefer .... I also prefer laptop keyboards as I have not worked on desktops for ages ... I do very much like the keyboard of the big Imacs, but don't like the MAC OS ... thanks for the info. And just to be sure I hope the T400 is a matt screen and not the glossy variety ?

    Thanks

Yeah, a laptop is good if you want to carry it around the house. But in that case, you may also consider the T500, since it has a larger and nicer screen, which would probably be better for daily usage - of course, the only downside is that the T500 isn't available with a high-nit LED screen that would be very nice outside in the backyard.

Yes, all R-, T-, and W-series Thinkpads have matte screens.

T400 would a wise choice because of the right balance between horse power and weight for you, and u would probably find the dedicate video card can do pretty much some good entertainment for you as well and will easily accomplish all ur home task such as web browsing, email, even some latest game with low settings, and you gonna love the perfect battery performance on the go as well.

thanks for all the help ...now let's see what price I can get in old Europe LOL. I would like a CCFL screen as I have read LED may strain eyes ... the reason why I cannot read on glossy screens ... and I do need the webcam built-in option. More real estate to work at home ... I thought of X200 with another monitor ...but 14 inch screen is plenty
