How are you guys/gals liking it so far on your t series thinkpad? My copy is coming in the mail either today or tomorrow and I'm wondering how its running so far. I have a great vista business build right now, and dont want to wipe it and have issues playing a game or using some essential apps (VS2008 ect). Let me know what your personal pros and cons are if you would, much obliged.

It works great. I did not have any problems with it, especially since all drivers are released. I am not a big time gamer, but I have played WoW and Left4Dead without problems.
There are no problems running VS2008 as long as you have SP1 installed for it. Same goes for SQL Server. -
I have a T400 with integrated graphics running Windows 7 Pro x64 and it's working great. I did a clean install and almost all drivers installed automatically.

Great to hear! Like I said I have mine coming today or tomorrow. Basically as long as WoW, VS2008, eclipse, jcreator work well Ill be happy. Im not a big gamer as well, just as long as some older games and WoW work well that side of me will be happy. Ill be downloading my drivers tonight and backing up all my data as well.
Thanks for your input! -
So is upgrading worth it? My school is having a free event for engineers, but I'm not sure if I should do it or not.

I am loving it so far. Its eye-candyness, aeroshake and more intuitive interface are hard to ignore. -

It's stable there's no doubt about that but all the status information is stripped out making it a real user's OS. For developers, Vista is a much better OS.

At this point Im still going to install it, I may just make a partition and do it that way instead of using it as a primary OS for now. Although I do like the snap feature for having multiple windows open, especially for work and/or development.

Just do it. While I ran Vista for a time, and appreciated the new technology in it, it was sluggish. As such, I switched to Windows 2008 Server on my notebook, which got rid of much of Vistas sluggish bloat, but it was missing some of the niceties you expect on a workstation. When the RC of Windows 7 hit, I ran it and didnt look back. I have been running the final release of Windows 7 for months now and am very pleased.

BlinkNR,
I am sorry to interrupt but I noticed no slowing or sluggishness from my t61p and Vista which again says something about the philosophy of getting a system with some growth room.

Sorry to threadjack, but was wondering would integrated graphics make the boot time of a t400s be slower than a t400 with dedicated graphics if all the rest of the specs are the same. Also, will windows 7 (aero shake and other stuff) work better on dedicated t400 vs the integrated of the t400s?
-
An IGP will not effect the boot time at all, with aero enabled I can have intel or ati enabled and the boot time is the same.
As for vista sluggishness, I have run xp and vista on 2 machines my old dell and the thinkpad and I noticed no difference in performance between the 2. The only thing I did notice was increased battery life and better aesthetics. The more and more I think about it the more I do want win 7 as my main OS.
Renee what were you referring to earlier about windows 7? -

I run Windows 7 on the T43 in my sig and it's not sluggish by any terms. I think Microsoft has actually reversed the traditional tendency for the OS environment to function slower and slower the longer it runs. On my T43 it actually gets faster, which to me is mainly because they have made SuperFetch actually useful, that and delaying the processes that will open upon login, so that you have an almost instantly useable desktop screen. I like how it's as smooth as a quad core on a Pentium M

I ran beta 2 on a T61, plus another interim build. I've run the RC and now the RTM of Ultimate x64 on my T400. In every case, things have been rock solid, and speedy.
I have administered an Active Directory forest with all four versions, and it functioned very well. I have run virtual machines with VMWare Player, and edited images with Photoshop CS3. I've burned CDs and DVDs with Nero 6.6, even though Windows 7 reported it as having compatibility issues at time of install (I told it to ignore, and have had no problems or messages since). I have videoconferenced with Skype, and used LogMeIn to give remote support to friends several states away. And, I've streamed media from my destkop (a Q6600 that I built myself) and used WinAmp in conjunction with two iPods (ancient 4G and a 3G Nano). All of it has worked great. -
Sadly the shipment was passed to the local USPS location back last Friday and didnt ship today. I was really banking on it being tonight. -
Liquid,
Now that's something I feel for.
