I have recovered a complete T20 from the recycle room at work. Normally they literally rip notebooks apart and smash the lcd's. The problem with this notebook though is that the lcd display is so dim it is unusable. I plugged an external monitor into it and the display is fine. Is this fixable? I have a couple of T22 shells with the motherboards intact. Can I replace parts on the T21, I'm assuming the video with the T22 parts?

T20 to 21 and T22 to 23 are interchangeable so no. Make sure you replace both the LCD and inverter. There's nothing wrong with the board if your video on external monitor is fine

I had a T21 that the cable went bad that connected the screen. The result was the back light didn't turn on. So I bought a replacement ribbon cable off ebay and it fixed the problem.

Been gone a couple of days and this topic is already on page 3. Sure is busy here.
Sorry about that. I have my numbers all mixed up. The notebook I found is a T20 and the shells are T22.
From Optomos I guess the two are not interchangeable. So now I get to display me lack of knowlege. 1) What is an inverter and where would it be located? And 2) Why would the LCD need changing? I thought they were either on or off and did not wear out (I guess like a regular monitor)?
