Looking at one on eBay, I asked the seller for model number and serial number. Seller answered willingly enough. Model number matches up, but the serial number turns up nothing. Lenovo support says :

    Should I be wary ?

Well the ThinkPad T21 is quite an old system, it would currently be around 10 years old and back then it was IBM who provided the support and not Lenovo so maybe the warranty information was not transferred properly to the current system (but most likely it would've expired by now).

Even so I wouldn't worry about the warranty status given its age, as long it's in a workable condition then all should be fine.

Never bought a Thinkpad from eBay before so perhaps I'm a bit overcautious.

That said, they're nice machines. They might be really old news in comparison to what you can get today, but mine's served me very well since 2004 and still works just fine. They're built like tanks. :)
