T22 fails to see both memory slots

I bought a T22 off eBay and it came with a 128MB stick of RAM. I purchased a 256MB stick with plans to purchase another later on to max out the RAM at 512MB. But the T22 fails to see one of the memory slots. I can place either stick of RAM into the one "working" slot and it will read properly, but never see the stick in the second slot.

I have installed all upgrades (drivers/patches) along with bringing the BIOS up to date. I installed PC Doctor, as instructed in the troubleshooting area of the IBM site, and it passes all tests with flying colors.

Anyone aware of a common problem similar to this or has the unthinkable occured? Could my motherboard be the problem? :(

What kind of memory is it? Those can be kind of picky sometimes. Could buy it from IBM, but that will be expensive. Or somewhere it is easy to return. If you go to Crucial.com you can find the exact memory for your machine.

    Thanks, zazonz

It uses PC100 and the two sticks I have are:

    128MB IBM factory memory
    256MB Kingston

Each stick can be recognized from one side (towards the hinge) but neither can be recognized from the other side (near the front). Even Belarc Advisor and the control panel only see one memory slot as being used.

I think the connection between the other slot and the motherboard must be damaged. I was posting the question/problem to see if others have experienced a similar problem.

Getting it from IBM would tell you if it is the slot or not. Plus they'd refund you if it didn't work.

Well, it fixed itself. When I removed the two sticks to check on their brands and reinserted them they must have seated better. I turned the T22 on again and now it sees 384MB.

When I removed one of the sticks I heard a sizzle sound. I thought maybe it was just the retaining clip vibrating but it sounded different. Oh, well, whatever sizzled made the other slot begin to read. I have reinstalled the sticks a dozen times but this time they landed right and Windows has more room to play in now.

Thanks for the responses, zazonz. I didn't know IBM had that feature in their return policy. Thanks!
