2. 32-bit OS will recognize up to 4GB but not be able to utilize all of it since it needs to allocate some space for other things. I would keep the Vista 64-bit as it tends to be a bit more stable and work better than XP.
3. If you prefer XP, you can install that, but as I said above, 64-bit Vista is far superior since it was designed w/ 64-bit in mind.
4. You mean switchable graphics. Yes, you can switch to integrated X4500.
5. RAM is the easiest to upgrade and doesn't affect warranty.
8. No, Turbo Memory is generally useless w/ 4GB, save your money.
13. This means you have not selected any 3G card, you will have an empty slot for you to buy and install your own if you choose to use 3G.
Screen: d is definitely the best screen (check out the review of it here at NBR), although you sacrifice a bit of resolution.
What are you using your laptop for? You could probably get away with a slightly slower CPU and not notice a difference. Personally, I would upgrade my hard drive too (get a cheaper one from Lenovo) but if you aren't comfortable, then it's ok to leave it as it is. Also, if you don't need it for 4-5 months, you have time to scout of the best coupons/deals. Don't rush in purchasing your laptop. -
i think i'm gonna use this pc as my main computer so my pc old pc is just for downloading stuff.
the apps that i think i'm going to run on this boy is eclipse notepad++ adobe dreamweaver hmm other else ? i dunno at the moment but if i need a very demanding apps i will instal it on this boy
i'm planning to use the laptop for at least 5 years to 10 years ? at years 7 or 8 i dun mind if it go slower i just need more ram rite? to crack that problem
1. about the processors is it okay to have the slower one rather then the current one ? is that really no big diffrent between those two ??
2. some issues told me that vista biz 32bit sp1 is able to utilize all the for gb is that true ? how can u describe "work better" ?
3. what i ask is do this backup dvd able to use autoupdate from the windows ?
4. lol that's great but do lenovo have any issues about changing the vga ? since the previous one has it's own trouble?
5. which is better do i buy another 2 gb now ( at the same time i buy my laptop ) or i buy it later like 1 year from now ask u know the price gap gonna be something at that moment ?
7 about this do i need to get higher RPM ? rather the 5400rpm ? but the 5400 rpm is will save more battery life rather then 7200rpm one rite ? i'm going to get it out on the road i think slower rpm is good ?
8. ok i will save my bucks from this menu then since i'm planing to use more then 4gb on that laptop (later) but for now i'm gonna use 2gb of ram is that the best deal ?
13. that's great... i'm going to buy sierra air card for the modem but which modem is the best ?
-think light-
how good is this feature actually ? do i need to change it's led if i use it too much?
-SCREEN-
high def LED is great i'm goingto take it then but slight smaller resolution -
up up up...

You don't "need to" do a thing. The difference between a 7200 rpm disk and a 5400 is speed. The 7200 rpm is faster. They will both do the job.
The issue of which draws the most power is deceptive. It's true that a 7200 rpm is supposed to draw more but it also draws more for a shorter period of time making a "wash".
You'd be very lucky to find a laptop today that would last 5-10 years. Operating without insurance is a game of luck. -
-Renee
wad is a "wash" ?
me also thinking to get the faster one since my current one is 7200 rpm (desktop)
-all
if i buy from lenovo us do i get international warranty? -
#49 here says:
Informal. an action that yields neither gain nor loss: The company's financial position is a wash compared with last year. -
What does your desktop have to do with the notebook?
-Renee -
no just comparing the hdd speed from my current pc and my next laptop
will i get international warranty if i buy directly from lenovo us ? -
Its a little worse than that. Local Lenovo won't deliver out of country so you'd have to have a friend who would have it delivered and the remail it. The warranty stays with owner meaning you. Every time time you'd want it repaired, you to have it shipped to this country and then remail it unless you bought it out of country.
-
argh....
i'm going to buy it on us but i'm going to use it on indonesia if i got something wrong i need to shipped back to us for repair ?
that's a WAW... -
if i buy T400 will i gamble for what screen do i get ?
-
Yes, just as you gamble on every part on every notebook made by every manufacturer.
-
oh ok.. cross my finger for every part of my next notebook
how big is the different between 2.24 ghz 2.4ghz 2.53 ghz?
with ram 2gb will running vista at the moment from buying planning to add 4 gb more later -
This really depends on what you plan to do. For normal productivity and web applications the difference is little to none. For an application that fully saturates both cores and benefits from the extra cache (e.g. media transcoding) you may see up to a 20% difference.
In my honest opinion, you should get either the P8400 or go all the way up to the T9600 (if your workload is really buffered by the CPU, nothing but the fastest will do). Most likely, the P8400 is more than enough for your needs.
Also, be aware that 4GB DDR3 modules are currently extremely expensive. This may change in the future, but at present you should consider 4GB (2x2GB) to be a practical limit. Also note that you need a 64-bit OS to properly address more than 3GB of memory. -
i think i'm just use it for learning programing, basic task and take it every where with me
i need more processor power if i do tons of math calculation?
what if i use to change a video format ? do i need a processor intensive ?
well i will buy the 4gb like 1 or 2 years later
-
You only "Need" more power if you are doing your math calculations (only really high end math/stat packages) or video conversions on a time deadline. A slower CPU can easily do these tasks, it will just take a little bit longer.
-
for next 5 or 10 years is it okay to take a slower one ?
-
I told you in this thread, you'd be extremely lucky if your system lasted 5 years the way they are made today. Far luckier for 10 years.
-
re instaling the os is helping it's performance or not ?
since my desktop usually get fresh instal like 2 times a year
spec below cost like 1633 USD i think it's better this way rather then my previous post

I would not order the T400 with 4GB of RAM, since Lenovo rips you off for the second stick. Instead, stick with the basic 2GB and order another 2GB stick from Newegg (currently <$30) to put in yourself. Also, the hard drive would be cheaper to put in yourself.
-
oh okay now i got a newer question
what is the different between these two ?
a. Enhanced ThinkPad T400 with discrete graphics
b. Elite ThinkPad T400 with discrete graphics -
any one ? know whad's the different ?
-
Nothing, other than the components they start off with. Lenovo's got a funny pricing scheme going on, so try configuring each one to your desired specifications, one may be cheaper than the other. For me, the Elite was cheaper than the Enhanced for the same components.
-
how to get international warranty? how much is it ?
-
A system either does or does not have an international warranty. You cannot add it to the system like you can accident protection.
-
That's the trouble with far right thinking - it isn't.
-
i'm thinking to buy this T400 at us but i'm planning to use it on Indonesia
so what warranty do i usually get ?
T400
