I'm getting scared about the crappy quality of the LCD on the new T400s. Can I cancel my order if it's still being delivered???

I'm loosing confidence in Thinkpads these days... :(

I take it, you didn't order with LED backlight? Tsk tsk. A few people have said here, it's much better to go with that option, and it's only $60 more (US anyhow).

I got the LED backlight. My issue is with color saturation, which is something people aren't seeing who already have the laptop in-hand.

Basically, the T400 sounds like the same panels that came on the T61.... just brighter.

Same blue tinted issues on the Samsung panels.
Same horrible viewing angles on all panels.
Same washed out color on all panels.

Well if you want to know what it is scientifically wiki it :). But I don't know...I wouldn't expect that amazing of panels anyways from a thinkpad. I don't think it replaces a good monitor for photo editing and graphical work. Since it is already on the truck I would at least just look at it and judge for yourself. I know my x200's screen isn't amazing...I will say that.

does the graphic card setting have a digital vibrance setting you can configure?

I have a t61 with the nvidia card and increasing the digital vibrance setting will increases the color saturation so that the colors pop out more.

I'll post some pictures if that'll help you. Though you already know how it looked on your older thinkpads.
I have XP so it doesn't look that nice, maybe Vista will make it look better

Well, in playing around with mine I've found a slight downside to switchable graphics...

That is, the ATI 3470 control panel has options for Color Saturation and whatnot, but the integrated Intel x4500 doesn't really seem to have much in the way of options. So I've been able to mess around with the ATI settings and it sort-of looks better, but I haven't figured out how to make it look any better with the integrated graphics. =(

hmm i wonder what the real difference between LED and CCFL is on a t400.. if only we could take a picture of both types next to each other.......

No it does not. Just commenting in general. The x200s is suppose to have the LED option, however.

I was looking at the Sony Z, but then I saw the price tag. I think I'm just going to have to pray that I get an LG screen. It's really depressing because I just took photos, comparing my Samsung LCD - T61 to my S-IPS desktop LCD. I know that's not a fair comparison, but it shows how bad the blue tint really is.

Keep in mind that my T61 is using a calibrated profile. I'm going to try and recalibrate now just to see what I might be able to accomplish with the T400. :(

I'm loving the LED screen on my T400. Not sure which version I got, but photography is a big thing for me and while I haven't had an opportunity to calibrate this one yet, it sure looks snazzy. Bright with great vibrant/rich colors without being over the top and even at full brightness I don't find it's washed out. Obviously calibration is going to have to pull that back some but so be it (I'm almost sad I may be calibrating it!).

    LP141WP2-TLB1

It's an LG screen, I know that much! It's incredibly hard to find out in LG specs whether there are LP141WP2 screens available with CCFL and LED backlights, but I'm assuming this is LED based on how bright it's getting and what seems like pretty good brightness (and I ordered it with an LED dammit!).

edit: nevermind I finally stumbled across the data on it on the LG Philips site:

I'm amazed how much brighter it goes than the flexview 15" UXGA on my T43p which I always liked.
