I performed a clean install of Vista on my T400 and everything is working fine except the fingerprint system.
I installed the fingerprint system from lenovo's site and I get this error at the logon screen :

    "Fingerprint system not available"

I also tried to install the original fingerprint software from drivers folder of my t400 but no luck.

    any suggestions?

    thanks.

I have the same problem. I have also tried the drivers from the SWTOOLS folder in the preload image without success. Has anyone gotten it to work?

its the new software that wouldn't detect the drivers of the fingerprint reader. so you will have to wait for the new driver or down grade it back to the previous version

Where can I find the old version? As far as I can tell, the T61 has a different fingerprint reader (UPEK) vs. the T400 (AuthenTec).

Hi there, first make sure you have your fingerprint driver and software correctly installed of course...
Then, uninstall any firewalls you have installed on your system and reboot to check if the fingerprint works.

I had the exact same problem with my T500's fingerprint reader, and (after extremely painful attempts of uninstalling and reinstalling different softwares) finally solved the problem by removing ZoneAlarm Pro. I'm not sure if there's any change of setting in ZoneAlarm that will tolerate the fingerprint, but I switched to Comodo firewall (hate its learning curve though :( ) and the fingerprint reader now works beautifully.

Thanks! It appears that ZoneAlarm was the problem.
