My T400 is on order right now, but I'm wondering if I should modify the screen, like I did with my T61.

Will a glossy screen improve contrast ratios on an LED backlighting display?

    What about viewing angles?

the t400 has matte finish, do you mean modifying it by adding a gloss layer?

I mean taking it to ScreenTek.com and having them repolarize the Matte screen to Glossy.

I did this with my T61 and it changed the contrast/viewing angles a HUGE amount. Repolarizing, according to their website is basically the technology Dell, Sony, and everyone else use to give you "X-Brite and TrueLife"... or whatever.

Personally I don’t like the glossy. I’ve had both screens and while I feel glossy gives more realism and makes pictures and video look better, I found it a bit annoying for everyday work as it was just too reflective and became a fingerprint magnet. Ultimately, I prefer the matte.

Well, a led display is an lcd one just like your t61 except that it has a led backlight instead of a flourescent backlight. What you see is basically the same not including brightness.

I agree with BinkNR -- I'm glad to be back to a matte screen with my T400.

Fingerprint magnet? You touch your screen a lot? It's not a touchscreen you know. :D

For the record, fingerprints can be seen on a matte screen as easily as on a glossy screen, I've both. So far, I prefer the glossy one.

I hardly touch the screen—and even then the glossy screen found a way to amplify this. While I have seen a fingerprint on the matte, it is rare that this happens.

And forget about outdoor working with a glossy screen. :p

If the LED backlight just increases brightness then I'm definitely getting mine repolarized. I prefer the higher contrast of a glossy screen since I use my laptop 100% indoors. Can't wait!

Leave indoor for laptops, and outdoor for real outdoor activities. :D
