Is there a way to disable the internal speakers on the T400, so no sound will ever be hear, but without disabling the headphones line out at the same time?

I don't want the internal speakers to work, with or without headphones connected, but I do want the headphones to work when they are connected! Is it possible?

    Thanks in advance!

On my old Acer, I wanted the same thing. What I ended up doing was just disconnecting the speakers internally, and then before I sold it, reconnected them.

I have an old Quanta MW1 which has 100% independent mixer control for speakers and headphone jack. Very neat feature indeed, but I've never seen it on any other laptop...

I'm not sure if this is the standard software, but on my T400(Win7 Pro x64) I have a control panel icon labeled SmartAudio. I haven't played around with it too much, but it looks like you can set it up to do exactly what you want it to do... keep the notebook speakers muted, but audio is still on when you connect a set of headphones.

Actually, I'm doing it right now. My speakers are muted because I'm at work, but my headphones automatically get sound when I plug them in. Take the headphones out and the notebook speakers are still muted.

Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers -> Properties -> Don't use this device
