    You too? :)

It's SOOOO beautiful. White's are unbelievably clean. According to the official review the Lenovo site lists contrast as 300:1 (probably referring to the Samsung panel) but the LG panel is 500:1 WoO HoO!!

    Show me some love.

nah. i've seen the Samsung panel. in all fairness, it wasn't with LED backlighting, but that's just a brightness issue. color reproduction on the LG is superior.

we get it LG screen is better and us people who got the samsung panels are unlucky *******s who have an inferior panel. also the samsung panels emit some radiation that might give us cancer.

hmm how are the LG viewing angles? I have samsung and I don't notice any color or brightness issues, but the viewing angles seem like they can improve.

yeah same here with the samsung panel. my screen lighting changes a lot when I move my head up or down even slightly. same goes with horizontal but less significantly.

How come all the manufacturers switched to TN panels on laptops? Are they just cheaper, or are they thinner too?

Yeah but the viewing angles make me sad inside. I saw a friend's Dell Inspiron 14.1" with a TN panel, and the vertical viewing angle is just pathetic. If you're not looking at it perfectly straight on, most of the contrast disappears and the colors become strange. Maybe the panel in the Lenovo is better than that, I don't know.

That sounds about how well the samsung panel performed on my T61. LG doesn't do that.

Good GOD, I just hope my t400 comes with the LG panel. All these hyperbole and comments are giving me the jitters about what panel I'm gonna end up with.

    Praying that it's an LG....

    Here's my two cents:

When I got my T61 - Samsung panel, I was like... hey, this isn't so bad. Granted, I got it repolarized to glossy 30 minutes after I got it because the text was unreadable! After the glossy conversion, the vertical viewing angles were bearable. Got a good 11 months use out of it... and forgot about LG panels.

Here comes the T400. I was still ok with getting either one because I had never seen an LG panel. I remember reading all the T61 threads about how the LG panel was better... yada, yada. HOWEVER, after getting my T400 and seeing what an LG panel looks like.....

    Wow.

Summary: unless you've seen both, you won't know how awesome the LG really is. I'm actually mad that I spent 11 months and 2 semesters of pharmacy school staring at that $@!* panel. Now I know where all my eye strain was coming from. I refuse to buy another Lenovo with a Samsung panel, EVER AGAIN.

Congrats man. I remember when you sent your T61 screen to screen-tek to have it repolarized. Glad you like your screen. I also have an LG on my T61p and it is a great screen. I have not compared it to a Samsung, so I have nothing bad to say about Samsung.

Enjoy! - 2nd times the charm!

Wow, pretty good memory! I'm really tempted to send this T400 in to get repolarized. It made a huge difference on my Samsung panel, and I can't even imagine how much better this LG panel could get.

I've seen two t400s side by side and both had their screens calibrated. The LG looked 10x better than the Samsung. The Samsung could not reproduce the white color like the LG did, there's always a slight hint of blue. I'm not saying that the LG LED panel is the best screen out there, but relative to the Samsung LED panel, it's better.

Could it be that Samsung has a higher defect rate, and that some/most Samsung panels are quite fine? Or are you still convinced that LG and Samsung panels are worlds away?

I don't think Samsungs are defective, just that's how they come off the assembly line. Might have something to do with white point or something. I dunno. I'd say 99% of the people on here that get Samsung panels notice the blue tint and they also admit that the panels don't perform well.

Most of the people who get LG panels notice the ultra-whiteness of... white. Without the blueish tint, color reproduction seems to be better too.

Sorry guys, I tried to get a picture of the two screens side by side and the camera on my phone was not up to the task. It actually made the Samsung look better if you could believe it. We also used some girl's point and shoot digital camera and it also didn't come out like expected. You guys are just going to have to believe me on this one when i say the LG panel is 10x better. I agree with rxblitzrx about the Samsung not being defective. It's just how they come from the manufacturer. Could it be poor quality control? Maybe, but i doubt it. It just seems like LG has ability to reproduce true white on their screens (relative to the Samsung).

man. i loathe samsung panels. had the legendarily crappy sec3350 samsung screen in my (returned) inspiron 1520.

it is pretty annoying to spend extra money, and get an inferior screen! hopefully most t400s have the LG panel...

sorry about the samsung hating, but their laptop lcd panels have issues. don't know why lenovo is putting them in their laptops... hopefully it's just supply issues and they normally go with LG. bah. disappointing to say the least.

tee hee!! i just looked at my sister's Dell 700m. I used to envy that display when compared to my T61 with the Samsung panel. Now I compare it to my T400 - LG panel and it looks SOOO dim and white actually looks a little too redish or dirty.

it's good to be on top for once. as soon as she gets her Sony Z in a month or so though.... i go back to the bottom again. =( oh well, at least i can close the gap.

I don't know why ppl keep insisting on making comparative judgements on panels that aren't calibrated properly to begin with. New panels fresh off the assembly are seldom calibrated properly. I can come up with 10 different color profiles in 3 min and make it look like they come from 10 separately different panels - red tints, blue tints, green tints you name it. calibrate calibrate calibrate..it's not that hard.

morphy: i agree with you that panels need to be calibrated before you can make a fair comparison. however, my samsung still didn't perform well after calibration. i couldn't get white to look super white like the LG panel. colors seemed to be a little washed out too. can all this be corrected with PROPER calibration. i have to admit that i just eye-balled it using the free calibration wizard software that's floating around here.

The matter of fact is that we did calibrate, calibrate and calibrated some more on these panels. We tried many tints of red, blue and green on both panels, and this is the conclusion that I and 5 other people drew who we're there: 1. Straight out of the box colors on the LG were almost perfect, a few very minor tweaks and we got it to look great. 2. Samsung wasn't too bad straight out of the box only if you didn't see the LG first. 3. After calibrating both panels, the gap between the two screens increased in favor of the LG. This is not to say that the color reproduction on the Samsung got worst, it's just that the LG color reproduction got increasingly better.

The third thing that we did was put both the calibrated panels next a Sony sz laptop as the control. Lets just say that if the Sony was a 10 on a 1-10 scale, the LG would be a 9.5 and the Samsung would be 9.0. This conclusion was agreed upon by all 6 of us present. There happened to be a girl in the same room with us and we asked her to rate which screen was the best and she said the Sony first, followed closely by the LG and the Samsung in third. She said the LG and Sony were both sharp and the colors were very vibrant while the Samsung just didn't look as nice. She didn't notice the blue tint initially, but after a few moments, she clearly said that the Samsung panel looked slightly bluish (blue haze to be exact).

I apologize to morphy if this seemed like an attack to you but this is the conclusion that we reached after spending a decent amount of time calibrating both screens. Could we have done better on the Samsung panel? Maybe. But that applies to the LG panel as well. Could it be possible that the Samsung panel we were trying to calibrate really was a defective unit? Possibly, but not likely because it looked ok right out of the box. It's only until you look at the LG and Sony panels first that you realize the color reproduction on the Samsung is off. There needs to be some relative benchmark to compare to in order to state whether something is better.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I had to defend me reputation. I' am no professional by any means and will admit that outright. If you are satisfied with your Samsung panel, then great. Although these conclusions were base on self judgment and without any real scientific method, I think they represent an honest fact that the LG is simply better than the Samsung panel. Though some would say it is only marginal, I'd say that it is truly noticeable only when they are side by side.

    hehe

Dudes, my display model being reported by PC Wizard 2008 reads "LTN154X3-L02"

Different Samsung model? Different lot#? What is X3?

Either way, I'm happy with its quality. See my last photo sample here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=299417

The people crying about bad Samsung displays must be seeing something I don't have installed in my notebook.

Edit: And lest not forget display cards and associated drivers.I'm sure an Nvidia GPU will have better color parameters to work with.

    Onboard Intel? It's a piece of ****.
