I am going to buy a T400 laptop, and am trying to decide between the 160 GB
HDD (7200 RPM) and the 128GB SSD. Does anyone know who manufactures these and what their quality is?. Does anyone have personal experience with either one? Thanks in advance for the input.

i would be guessing its a samsung 128 GB but not positive. If it is then its a very high quality MLC drive. Most vendors today (Lenovo/Dell) dont ship crappy SSDs with their laptops (such as OCZ core models)

The Toshiba Qosmio's SSD is horrible. it's a 64 GB model... I don't know the brand but it's slower than the 320 GB 5400 rpm drive in it's other bay.

The manufacturer is Samsung. Their drives used in the Thinkpads are quite nice, from what I've heard.

It will be a Samsung MLC drive and it will be much faster than any hard drive.

Has anyone had the stuttering problem with this SSD that I've heard about?

The Intel and Samsung controllers don't exhibit the stuttering however even the intel and samsung ssd's are subject to performance degradation due to inherently hardware-level file system issues. But that being said, SSDs are still amazingly fast for day to day operations and application use. Anandtech has a very lengthy article about SSDs if you want to learn more.

I have never heard of, nor experienced, any stuttering problems on the Samsung drives. Almost all of those complaints have been levied against the bargain SSDs using JMicron controllers (e.g. OCZ Core).

I have an Kingspec 64GB SSD with JMicron controller in my X41 tablet (bought it because this one comes with an interface for the X40 series).

Windows XP tablet did stutter under very heavy load. It did not stutter with flashpoint beta drivers, however I then got file corruptions.

The drive does also not stutter in Windows 7 (using it heavily since 3 weeks), and I believe this is because of the new and improved SSD support in Windows 7.
