For anyone running one of the latest Windows 7 builds (7068 or 7077) on a T400 or 500, I'd like to get your feedback as to how the install of drivers went.

I'm having an issue with the screen brightness, turning it down all the way actually, and its a problem i didnt experience with build 7000.

I cant figure out if its a chipset issue, a gpu issue, or something else.

Is your issue that you can't turn the screen brightness down as far as you could in Vista/XP? If so, I experienced the same issue with build 7048 on my x200 Tablet (0/15 brightness in 7048 seemed about the same as 6/15 brightness in Vista).

I just installed build 7077, and it seems that I have full control over brightness. However, I have not yet installed Lenovo Power Manager (this may cause some compatibility problems), and I don't have the on screen display working.

yes jon thats exactly what it is. i cant turn it down all the way, as far as i could with the vista install that came with my computer.

i could do this with the 7000 beta that i used for 3 months. then i went ahead and installed 7068 and now 7077 and i cant fix the issue.

and as you mentioned i cant get the onscreen display to work for the brightness controls either. they work for sound, but not for brightness.

ive reinstalled 7077 and same thing is happening. i cant turn the brightness all the way down.

i'm about 95% sure its the Microsoft driver for my integrated gfx card. cant install the intel driver either as i get an error telling me its does not support this OS, despite it working with build 7000.

from now on i'm waiting for official MS releases of these betas; these leaked versions are definitely buggy.

I had the same problem, except with Build 7000. I've given up on the beta for the time being, but I'm going to switch to 7 full time on my T400 once the RC comes out.

I do know that it is possible to install the official intel drivers on Windows 7. All you need to do is set it to Vista compatibility mode in the 'Properties' menu (alternatively, you can right click the setup and choose 'Troubleshoot compatibility').

If you think that the problem is the MS driver, then I'd give that a shot. Let us know how it works out.

yeh ive already figured out how to install the intel drivers only.

it lead to the conclusion that its not a driver issue at all but a problem with these latest versions of the OS.

i'm waiting on the official RC as well. i'm done installing all these leaked copies.
