I ordered T400 with 7-in-1 media card slot.

Unfortunately I figure out many people doesn't recommend it. :(..

Anyway, my camera uses CF memory card, so I am wondering it has CF or not.

    Thanks~!

Its not that we don't recommend it. Just alot of questions involving it.

Im still not certain if I should get media card reader or PC Card when I order the notebook when Wimax is finally implemented and a really good price promotion comes into play.

Im leaning between T400 and X301. I know that X301 gets a price reduction over X300. So I will wait awhile yet before I even order a laptop. Will prolly get something later this year.

The media reader option is confusing because we don't know if it truly eliminates the pc card slot but on the other hand, the stock bezel is prolly not included so it makes it complex as to decide which option to get.

If one never plans on using a PC Card and the media reader or smart card reader has all that you need then the option for you would be simple.

For me, I have no clue what I will be needing and its very confusing to say the least. I know I use SD Cards and the like. I don't own any backwards compatible PCMCIA cards and all the new cards are coming in express card form. So Im really not sure what to get.

I think if you use a lot of CF cards, then the PC Card slot would be quite useful. But if you don't use CF and other old PC Cards, then I think it's better to get the 7-1 card reader.

Lenovo ships with a variety of options but its so confusing cause of the vast flexibility.

I could see someone using a vast different array of combinations.

Not really, in my opinion. PC Card based CF readers are a pain to use in comparison to a USB based reader.

This article at Rob Gabraith's site is a good read.

    This is their reason:

I've used CF PC Card adapters for many years on many different notebooks and I've never encountered the problems listed above. And they're not making any sense, they said ExpressCards can be designed to communicate internally with the host via USB 2.0 or PCIe, then you would have the same so called "incompatibilities and driver problems" with your external USB reader. The broken pins reason is absurd also, you can't really break the pins unless maybe he/she flipped the card upside down and tried to force it in? And those PC Card and ExpressCard pins are actually stronger than the smaller pins for the CF, which an external USB card reader would have too. The main problem with external USB reader is that you have an extra device dangling around, not very good for on the road.

daewoohan, since there are CF ExpressCard adpaters, then you shouldn't be worried about not having the PC Card slot. I still think the 7-in-1 media card slot is a better option than the PC Card slot, but of course unless you need to use other PC Card devices.
