I just received my T400 and I'm more than pleased with it. Does anyone know the ideal threshold for a new battery? Should I just choose "optimize" option provided by Lenovo or set my own? I'm planning on using the battery for as long as possible, so any input is appreciated.

    Thanks.

I recommend setting a start threshold at 80% or below (I use 60%) as this minimizes the number of cycles. You may also want to set stop at 95% or below because keeping a Li-Ion at 100% all the time is not a great idea.

I've only used "Optimize" for a short period but I could never tell any difference from the normal 96%/100% thresholds.

The optimize doesn't seem to do much for me either..

I just want to avoid 100%. And the minimum distance between the thresholds is 4%..

So I have it set at 92%/96%.

So, should i start my charge at 30 or 40 and cap it off at 60, 70, or 80? Please suggest on your known experiences.

    I set mine at 70% / 95%.

It takes longer to charge the last 5% of a battery because it switches to a trickle charge to top off the battery. Not to mention, keeping a battery at 100% for prolonged periods of time will wear it down.

I have an X200s with a 9 cell, and mostly based on the advice from jonlumpkin, and the Notebook Battery Guide, I have my thresholds set to: 40% and 95%.

Alright, my laptop fully discharged. I set my threshold at 20/90. If I plug in the AC adapter while my laptop is turned off, would the threshold still apply? Or is the threshold only effective when the laptop is turned off?

I think you're asking if the charging thresholds only take effect when the laptop is turned on.

From my experience, the charging thresholds are always in effect, regardless if the laptop is turned on or off.

That's exactly what I asked. Thanks for the answer. :)
