Hello. From time to time my T400 cannot wake from sleep. I am running Vista Business. Certain commands still work during such a crash, for example I can turn Thinklight on and I can also eject the optical drive. Windows just never loads. Does anything have this issue and does anyone know a fix to this?
I have tried all such things as switching off wake on lan, etc. Is there a way to get windows to go back into 'standby' instead of 'sleep' (which is new, or maybe just the name)?

anyone have a clue?
This is happening every time now. I can only use hibernate which I do not like. Any suggestions for fixes or hardware problems?
This doesnt appear to be a windows vista thing because it happens with windows 7 RC also. -

How are you trying to wake up your notebook after putting it to sleep?
I believe it actually depends on how you put it to sleep in the first place. On my T400 if I put it to sleep by closing the lid when I open it it wakes up automatically. However, if I put it to sleep using the key combination or using the standby button in Windows or it does so automatically due to idle time I find that I have to press either the power button or the sleep key combination.
Also, check your power manager options to see what your computer does when you do a certain action such as closing the lid or pressing the power button. -

Is there any difference between the 'standby' that is in windows XP and the 'sleep' that is in windows vista.

However, if I use Fn+F4 I have to press it again or the power button to wake it from sleep, simply opening the screen or pressing any button on the keyboard won't do it.
Standby and Sleep are the exact same thing. -
Uhh you are completely misunderstanding the gravity of the situation im facing.
Its was never about not turning on. It is plainly just a system crash. Nothing responds. It turns on alright. You can see the storage drive icon flash. You can open the DVD rom. You cant do nothing else.
I have now tried all combinations to know this problem is persistent. Obviously have tried using fn keys or close lid options. -
i think i have the same problem as u. does your computer BSOD when it crashes? or does it just freeze and u have to do a hard reset? usually what happens to me is all programs freeze, even task manager, BUT the cursor still works, and then i have to do a hard reset.

I dont know what you mean?
The screen doesnt seem to turn on. The system doesnt respond except dvd rom can eject. Need to hold powerkey. -
LaggedOut,
If it's a T500, it's still under warranty. Why not send it in?

I can't reliably put it to sleep; hibernate seem to work better.
I wish they would fix it. -

Have you guys tried to rule out any software which might be causing this problem? My T400 sleeps/hibernates just fine, infact I never shutdown mine unless an update requires it. The only way to see if this is a driver or hardware issue would be narrow down the probable software causes.
