I was wondering about the advantages/disadvantages of the 2 reader options on the T400:The Express Card Slot & Smart Card Reader and the Express Card Slot & 4-1 Media Card Reader

If you need to read SmartCards, then that would be the one to get. Outside of business or government environments that use SmartCards, it is unlikely in the US that you find any use for it.

The real question is 4-in-1 reader vs. PC Card (PCMCIA) slot. That's a personal decision; you need to compare your need to use a PC Card against your need for a SD/XD/MMC/MS reader.

In addition to what Lew said, supposedly the Express and PC Card combination comes with a spring-loaded door cover for the slots, as opposed to plastic inserts, but I have been unable to get anyone to confirm/deny or take a picture of this.

Your confirmation is on page 104 of the T400 Hardware Maintenance Manual.

Thank you sir! So the “bezel” does actually exist! Now only if we can get someone that owns this to take a picture
